I am new here, I just wonder if any of you, most of you are all master of N800,could tell me is there any way to share the internal GPS receiver of N95 with N800, then you can use both of them to do the navigation free of charge. cause you know the N95 will download the map through 3G or GPRS during driving or walking. Maybe you will think I have someting wrong^_^Of course, I can use the navicore navigation kit for N800 to do my task, but I just consider if you do not want to take too many electronical devices out, and the N800 has the biger LCD, larger storage capacity, longer battery life, and quicker response, but unfortunately, without the function of cellphone, so , this time , I think, maybe many yong persons have the same thought as I do, we need N800 to support most of our multimedia demands and use N95 as some help to navigation! so we do not need to buy the 399 euro navi kit! o(∩_∩)o

I have both: an N800 and an N95. AFAIK, the GPS from the N95 is not sharable over Bluetooth (I tried), so the N800 cannot use it. I'm fairly sure the maps on the N95 are not accessible over file management through Bluetooth either.

So...you are stuck. You need another (little) device for GPS on the N800.

i use my n95 quite alot for navigation, but the possibility to share it's internal gps receiver with the n800 sounds appealing. i found a program that does this for pocket pc, maybe it's possible to port it, as it's open sourced:

Sadly the N95 does not support the SPP (Serial Port Profile) Bluetooth Profile which is normally used to link GPS modules with other devices such as the N800.

The ability to use the N95 GPS with a secondary device such as the N800 would be a killer feature (for the N95) but then I guess Nokia realise they wouldn't sell so many LD-3W modules. And that the N95 battery would last well under a day if you used the GPS heavily.

if that is the case, how come the n95 is able to be used with external gps devices (like the ld-3w)?

What Bluetooth profiles a device offers and what profiles it requires are two different things. The N800, for instance, requires that a phone offer the Bluetooth DUN profile in order that the N800 can connect to the modem in the phone, yet the N800 itself offers few if any Bluetooth profiles to other devices.

So the N95 may support external GPS modules via the SPP profile (ie. the N95 as a consumer of this data) yet the N95 doesn't offer the SPP profile in return thus ensuring that any N95 internal GPS data stays internal.
