Just returned the N800 today... after 10 days of playing around with its limited functionality.

I do miss it every so slightly, but just couldnt find a good reason too. Coolness factor, nah... its kinda ugly. Size/form factor? Nope, to much around the edges (Make it all screen and then we can talk!

I guess for the price its not a bad device, and I still may grab the cheaper N770 for a mear $130.00 or less.

If it supported java VM, I may have kept the N800.

Great forum though....

Good for you! I wish more people on this forum who don't like their N800's would just return or sell them and move on from here. Then maybe we would see more positive posts instead of all this moaning and groaning from people who obviously don't get the N800 concept.

Can some one from nokia read this... See its a few little things and you would sell allot of these things by word of mouth.. If this thing had current flash and java on it it would be a viral device..

I guess the comments abut the design are kind of odd most people think its nicly designed..

All you had to do was search the forum a bit to find that Java support is in the works.

As for current Flash-- the world ain't ended yet. Hang on.

Thanks for the heads up.. I'm not giving up on it so easy.. to bad this guy did.. its still a great device.. as is.. and the skype thing is just proof that development is going on with outside parties.. thats good!

Also Being open is a huge thing for any devices life span because if there is a killer app some one will copy its killer parts for a open platform.

I checked last night and the N800 was ranked #4 on Amazon under computers and electronics. However, a release date of April 2004 was posted. So who knows what that's about. I know I have products on Amazon and sometimes they use the date from a prior version.

For what the device is, it's very cool. I use it as a laptop replacement -- but I am only successful as a result of using VNC to access my office PC when I need critical apps. I love that I can bring it with me to a trade show, pay for wifi access at the venue and have full voip and instant message and email access all day.

My only issue is with my Nokia folding keyboard. Can't get the hang of the condensed rows and it bugs me that the number keys stay activated without toggling back to alpha automatically. What's the best, most ergonomic (qwerty) keyboard?

Im not a quitter... and I do understand the concept of this device. It reminds me of those "kitchen" devices that came out years ago (I think Palm and some other company made them". This is obviosly a nice device with great functionality for a limited amount of people.

Without Java VM support, it just doesnt work for my intended purpose. Not a laptop replacement, but close for the small price tag.

I can see in the next year Nokia or others making a device that fits the bill. I wish Apple would try there hand at a UMPC, now that I would buy! If the iPhone supported java, I would be in line today!!!

Thanks to my N800, I actually haven't looked at my "home computer" for going on three months now!

I get exited everytime i refresh the application manager!
one thing i would love though. has anyone used yahoo widgets, i think some form of widgets on this device would be great!
also a form of movie maker/editor so you could record movies/sound and edit it on the n800 before uploadng it! only basic mind you. using the built in cam or from a camera phone!

cheers
