Hi, Has anybody had any success with a usb sound card with the spiffy new USB OTG?

I'm really keen to record stereo 44khz from my somewhat awesome binaural microphones. Would the USB port provide enough power? My mics have their own power supply..

Also I'm wondering if GStreamer would allow me to record in stereo to a file. I wouldn't know how to go about this though, other than looking at the commands used by phonestream.

Any ideas gratefully received.

Thanks folks,

The N900 will recognise the devices but we seem to be missing USB audio modules from the kernel (understandably so), to actually do anything with them.

I've tried a few I've been able to get my hands on and all but one (Zoom H4 - suspect it's because this will also mount as an SD Card) show up in the logs as being correctly enumerated. Just nothing kicks in to set them up for audio use.

Gstreamer would most definitely allow you to record stereo to a file.

cheers

I should state that I don't know nuffink when it comes to Linux. :-(

When you say "nothing kicks in to set them up for audio use" what would one normally expect to use?

Would Gstreamer be able to record from the usb sound card mic socket without additional drivers?

If one does a "alsamixer -c 0" it seems to list quite a few levels. I wish I knew what they all were. Are some of them devices that can be recorded from?? Would that allow me to use the red and white connectors on my video-out cable to record as line-in?

Oh blimey, I'm well out of my depth.

Thanks.

Looking at Recaller's source, gst-streamer seems to be passed pulsesrc device=source.hw0

In linux, how do I determine the device name of a usb soundcard line-in?

I think I'm going to go on ebay to get myself a usb soundcard and start playing...

compile your own kernel sources with that module enabled, assuming it exists in 2.6.28

Thanks STLPaul. Unfortunately I'm in way too deep now. Sorry. Although I'm keen to get stuck in I've never got into this sort of thing with Linux before. I'm very appreciative of your reply but I fear it's just raised more questions in my mind than answered.

1. How would compile my own kernel sources with that module enabled?
2. How would I enable the module?
3. What module?(!)
4. How would I determine it exists in 2.6.28?
and finally 5. What is 2.6.28?

Hey! I just answered 5 myself by searching. Forget 5.

Oh 'eck, go easy on me you lot

hi sophocha, out of interest, what's the DAC like on these sort of things? Hissy? I wonder if a dedicated device would be prefferable.
