"or something to that effect" isn't exactly findable in a search..
Never heard of such a message appearing.. However, there'd be something similar appearing in a low memory (as in RAM) situation... BUT, it's almost imposible to reach such a situayion (it becomes unusably slow long before)..
There'd be one way to trigger such a message, by turning off swap. Even in that situation it'd need widgets and crap, or launching browser, email, application manager, or other heavy apps.
So I'd check that swap is on and working.

Apparently its now running really slow, and keeps saying "too many applications running, please close some before continuing" or something to that effect.
any ideas? its completely bare device!
