What country and mobile operator is your sim card from? In Poland, using Play operator's sim card sending and receiving messages works out of the box in UMay, no need to change anything...
Anyway, I guess you have some ofono0xx_oril0yy.tar.bz2 package? You should mount your android partition on /and under maemo (so if you installed it on sd, probably "mount /dev/mmcblk1p2 /and" run as root or, if you installed it on emmc probably "mount /dev/mmcblk0p4 /and" or similar) and extract contents of this .tar.bz2 to /and. You should probably change the file /and/system/bin/ofonod and the file /and/system/lib/libofono-ril.so (these two are responsible for ofono and ofono-ril in NITDroid AFAIK).
Edit: Btw, where did you get the file from? I can't see anything new on NITDroid forums?
