Hello,
My N900 was in my pocket and I had been happily using it for the past few week after installing the newest "superscript" and overclocking to 250-900, trying ulv and xlv voltage profiles.
Well, when I took it out, it was black and wouldn't be turned on. Of course I thought empty battery, but that's not it, I hooked it to charger, also I tried another battery but still nothing.

Here are the last few signs of life maybe still left in it:

1. When i insert the battery, blue Nokia logo shows on white background, then with little wrench-icon for R+D mode (that has been there for months though, Nokia service left that on after flashing PR 1.3
2. When I plug in the charger, yellow LED is on, not pulsing but continuous
3.The screen then goes black after 30 or so secs, then switches back on again with same procedure repeating as long as i keep the charger plugged in.

When not plugged in, press of power button shows white screen with logo (no reaction from LED), then goes black again after about 30 secs.

When connected to the PC (Windows XP), the phone behaves the same as when connected to charger. The PC acknowledges a connected USB device, starts installin Nokia drivers, but stops as soon as phone screen goes black again, then repeat.

This is it, my friends. I hope the CPU wasn't fried from overclocking, but I didn't notice anything strange at all in behavior of software and UI after OCing, everything was perfectly normal, also the whole day before the incident, except the battery lasted considerably shorter.

Please, advise! Help me!
Thank you!

It sounds like you need to reflash ( had the same thing happen to me). There are good instructions at http://wiki.maemo.org/Updating_the_tablet_firmware

Classical reboot loop. Bright yellow, constant LED means emergency charging. You just need to reflash - search forum/wiki for adequate threads.

By the way, if You would start with with searching forum, You wouldn't need to even ask No offense here - You asked very nice way, with details about problem etc - it's just for Your convenience next time You get any problem. Most things are already well-documented, and quite popular.

Anyway, I think You'll find everything You need here:

http://wiki.maemo.org/Flashing

side note: Be careful with predefined profiles like lv, ulv, xlv, ideal, starving etc. I think you don't have chance to fry anything using them (actually, quite opposite), but even if seems to working fine for weeks/months, it may be corrupting Your filesystem - sudden of nothing, You may encounter problems with roots hard to trace. In my opinion, titan's profiles and it's "titanlikes" are depreciated.(keep in mind, ho ever, that it's my personal opinion and many people here definitely wouldn't agree with this).

Still, worsimage), if Your-case scenario you could get by with corrupted filesystem is need for full reflash (inc. eMMC u don't use BackupMenu.

Thank you, I did perform a search first as usual, but I wanted to make sure.
I'm actually a bit afraid to try a reflash. Last time I did, when flashing PR 1.3 (from a Win XP computer), I almost bricked my phone, apparently because something was wrong with my PC's usb socket. I then had to get it to Nokia service.
Also I just re-read all the instructions from A to Z and I'm not sure I'm much smarter now, it's all pretty confusing.

This time around, I have also Ubuntu installed on the same machine (with that strangely acting usb port, but it has been behaving normally under Ubuntu!), and also a new laptop with Windows 7/64 bit.
Which one would you recommend I use for the reflash?

I don't quite understand what you are saying here. So there are, I gather, several ways of reflashing?
Which is the one I need? Do I need to do only rootfs or eMMC too?
If eMMC too, how can I back it up first, and how can I make sure my battery is charged when I'm unable to boot the device?

I'm sorry for having to ask so many questions in the same thread, but I don't think I'll be able to find the appropriate one for each of them

I'm really stumped by the whole fiddling with the voltage thing. It's supposed to save battery life, yes? But the lower I go with the voltage, the more it's likely to cause problems with an OCed CPU? Is that it? If Titan's profiles are not safe, what would be a viable alternative?

Ooff, and I thought I had finally set up my N900 just right and perfectly working..

Read the wiki. If you´re sorry about the pile of questions: Read the wiki.

Thank you, by now I understand that I need to reflash
Unfortunately, I don't know a single person who could help me with this, they're all dumbphone users!
But I swear I've read all the information in the Wiki!
Now I'm still uncertain about the following 2 points, not covered in the Wiki:

1. How do I determine whether I need to do a combined reflash (eMMC and rootfs) or just rootfs will do?
2. In the Wiki, it says the battery needs to be fully charged before I start. I don't know the status of my battery right now, because when I plug in the charger, I can't tell if it's charging or not because the reboot loop starts, yellow LED going on and off. So I'm wondering how else I might determine the battery status...?

Just try rootFS first, then flash eMMC (and after that rootFS again).
battery should be enough if its more than 30% (its always charging a bit via USB Port) but "boot looping" drains it a lot...

I can help you via RDP or TeamViewer (or just post instructions into this thread) if you want

Robin
