I am running Vista and downloaded Media Converter 1.43. Installed fine and seems to open fine. I am testing with a few :30 second home movie clips and the program shows that it is processing them. The progress bar goes all the way across, but then the status box says "fail." The file produced will not open with either windows media player or on the 770.

I tried uninstalling and reinstalling and there is no change. Can someone give me a suggestion or two on how to get this to work, please?

They are avi files. But I'm having the same result with wm files. I just tried installing the converter on my XP laptop and am having the same result. Do you have to install a codec or something?

Since I got absolutely no help here at all, I thought I would post what I figured out so far as I am sure others will run into this problem and might find this thread. I installed Media Converter on two seperate computers, one Vista, and one XP with the same consistant "fail" messages.

First, I tried other video converters and copied the settings from the Discovery sample video that comes with the 770. Athough the process worked just fine, the resulting video files would not play on the 770. (I tried lots of different settings.)

I decided to give Media Converter another try. First I tried again using the default "low quality" setting. Fail, again. Then I tried the "action move" settings. Fail. Then I tried "high quality", Success!

Now I tried to stream the file. No luck, audio streams but no video, probably the high bitrate is more than can be streamed with the 770. So, I tried to convert the new file down to low quality with Media Converter. No problem.

So, I will convert files to high quality and if I want to stream them or save disk space, I will convert those files down to low quality.

Not sure what's going on but without help here on the forum, all I can do is report what I am finding and guess the cause.

Now, all of this applies to using the video player included with the 770. I am finding that Mplayer will play almost all of the files I have converted. Mplayer doesnt have much of a GUI, though, and I don't really care for UKMP, a graphical interface for Mplayer. Seems to me that UKMP would be great for someone who is most interested in having lots of music on their 770. Gives the album cover art as tappable. I'm more interested in having some home movie clips, maybe a movie or tv show.

Hope this helps someone.

PS Anyone know of a more active forum on the 770 ?
