I don't know that this have been talking before.
i got my N9 from Nokia VietNam, couldn't wait for the update from Nokia VN,currently live in US. i found this solution:

chose "update using your PC"
select "English UK"
click download and run ( 35 MB)
connect your N9.
the SW(software updater) will show your current version 10.2011.30....., and there is a new version available. follow the intructions.
It take about 20 minutes to update,
After it finished, you N9 will reboot, the SW saying that failed to update, don't worry about this, just exit the SW.
When your N9 booted completely. run SW again to check to make sure your N9 is up to date, you will see your current version will be 20.2011.40.4....., good luck
I did check the Store has more apps using this solution . ( i think this using the UK image)
I love the swipe Keyboard, so fast.
there is no maps installed, but there are few availble in Map/manage map ( USA, ASIA......) just installed USA (1.5 GB)
