its extremely funny, yesterday i was able to play mp4 that i downloaded from youtube normally, but today it doesnt, media player can read my file but with no thumbnail, and when i try to play it, its say media not supported, what is wrong here??

ps the two videos thats came from nokia is normal too

Same problem for me (N900, CSSU). Video codec error… Obliged to read them with mplayer…

i just type

root
apt-get install --reinstall decoders-support

and its fine(even i cant play flv untill now, but mp4 running smoothly

Ok, two things:

1. mp4 is a container, so not all mp4 files will be the same (different codecs, profiles, etc) meaning not all will have native support using the stock media player.

2. Nokia N900 only supports H.264 (mp4) videos with baseline 3.0 profile.

Very often the error "media not supported" is due to an overclock/instabilty of the dsp.
If running from a terminal:
dmesg | grep -i dsp

you find something like "dsp fault" or "dsp error"... this the confirmation of a DSP instability. This could explain why the day before it was working and now it gives the usual error (media not supported)
