First of all, happy new year everybody

I was doing a little browsing on my N900 earlier and noticed that the poor gal has started getting a little slow, bear in mind i have power kernel installed and usually have it running at 900mhz so it should be running ok.

I'm thinking of doing a reflash and bringing it back to it's original settings. I love what CSSU has achieved but i find the portrait mode isn't for me. I might go back to using 1.3.1

It got me thinking.. as it stands in 2012.. if you were starting from scratch with your N900, how would you set it up with all that's available right now?

And realistically, is there going to be anything in 2012 worth putting onto it? What does the future hold for our beloved device?

Well I would advise you to be prepared for a shock! You may not realise how bare a stock n900 really is after all this time, and how many of those important apps or little "random" packages that you may have installed will be missed later on

I performed a full reflash 3months ago and took mine right back to "out of the box" state without wanting to restore from a backup and I am still finding things that i have missed/forgotten or needed later. But it does mean that it is running sweet and I don't use half the number of desktop widgets icons as before. It is pretty minimalist.

My current set-up

5gb flash image
2 desktop portrait screens
Symbain belle icons + harmattan theme
Customised dibble dobble transitions + Catagorize
swappolube
CSSU
KP49
Nitroid

>I am waiting for an easy to use 720p recording and video pagage to be released but may try to install them again (it was the 720p topics that made me brick my phone in the first place. Shoulda checked my root space lol)

There are still a number of programs and games left to add, gotta get my sixaxis connected again

My thinking too, and since i threw my ipod out the window and killed it.. the N900 is my primary music player for when i'm going into work so a lot of the memory gets taken up with tunes.

Has anyone figured out how to have gapless playback yet?

The first app (game) i install is blubbels.. hours of entertainment!

fAPN is also a must, as i can't get Vodafone Live otherwise.. i get Vodafone ISP which does the same thing but they charge 10 times more for.

I also use the WF7 Mango Theme with Harmattan icons. I haven't seen a nicer combo yet.

And what exactly is 5gb Flash image? I'll check it out myself but a brief description would be helpful

I am just doing a script (which will be later adopted in a GUI) for the people like MINKIN2 and me.
The problem is, I heavily customize the N900, and once I feel that it reached its maturation custom state I get very pleased with it, pleased to the extent that if any small fault that could be fixed by simply entering a code would force me to reflash. I really have some kind of reflashaphobia, counting the times I have reflashed the device since I bought it, I can say that they're well over 200 times.

So back to the program, it will enable all mods available, install kernel power + CSSU + 720p + swappolube + extra decoders + the most apps I use (leafpad...) and QBW + harmattan icons.

a PR1.4 would be great but i guess that's never going to happen.
It's so frustrating because there seems to plenty of life left in the device. Just a lack of ideas perhaps.

Battery life will continue to be a burning issue, it's still not solved.

Patches rarely work when the core of the problem has been ignored.

I'd love to see Maemo 5 re-written from the ground up.

bad thing is, as time goes on, websites are getting heavier and more "complex"

ok, i understand it's called "evolution". but the N900 struggles sometimes.

it just doesn't handle websites the way it did in 2009-10
totally understandable but still...

Is that because of a lack of muscle?

My setup:
32gb built-in emmc
3 dekstops
Humanity theme
catorize plus
swappolube
cssu
kpv49 from my repository
preenv
easy debian (audacity, g++)
open media player
ovi maps extra features
scoresheet
rootsh and sudser (+ busybox power)
and more...

Yeah, after reflash n900's barely usable
