i cannot do a swipe-from-top/bottom/sid
e when i am not holding my n9.

i thought it was just that its hard to do from the angle, but after half an hour of careful testing i have found that having another hand touching the back or the top of the phone case is required to swipe.

touching works perfectly for everything else, include sliding through the 3 home screens.

i have a thick screen protector and the included rubbery skin case thing, so i imagine it reduces the capacitive sensitivity a bit.

note that this doesnt affect swiping from vnc, so its not a software thing, its a capacitive screen thing.

my questions are:
1) does anybody else find that it is sometimes strangely hard to swipe with one finger while the phone is far away?
2) is there a way to increase the radius, or the sensitivity, or what-have-you, of the screen-edge? i want to make it very slightly easier to swipe.

I've had your issue a few times, I'm not sure what causes it. I had the issue when I had screen protector and when I didn't.

Hmmm never had that issue. Touching the phone w/ the other hand is def not required to swipe. Might be your phone or your protector especially if it happened all the way through 30 minutes of careful testing. But that I don't think that's a common issue for most

im not familiar enough with capacitice touchscreens to say exactly how, but the extra hand just needs to be near-ish to provide some sort of magnetic fieldmabob.

I won't know whether this is ur case or otherwise, but I happen to notice/understand that "one-handed-operation" of the swipe UI is tad difficult for ppl with smaller palms... while it's perfectly alright with those who have a larger hand-size.

Which is why, I've observed, it usually fails with my spouse; and many others of the feminine gender. While, it's generally a non-issue with most males. I can do all those single-handedly.

Just my 2 cents... with no offence meant to anyone.

input is appreciated; women do have statistically smaller hands, its not sexist or offensive to point this out.

however, i mean when i place the phone on the table and manipulate it with one hand, as opposed to holding it in one hand and flicking with my thumb {that works for me}.

breaking news, when its plugged in via micro usb, it is MUCH easier to swipe, even from really far away.

after noodling about a bit, it seems plausible that a change in the local electric field near one of the edges would alter the way that the mutual capacitance reduction is calculated, or how its interpreted by the software, especially if theres an additional non-conductive layer like a screen protector.
