Just a questions do most users of the 770 stream their audio or do they put on memory card? If memory card what player do you use?

I'm using nokia's media server app to stream music from my server, to listen to music around the house, and it works great. I haven't upgraded the memory card yet, but obviously you'll need one for mp3's on the road. The built in audio player should work fine.

Well the thing I have been reading is all about loading OS to memory card which would rip the music function out unless you stream.

Do you use conola for your around the house music?

I tried streaming MP3 files from my Windows Server with Samba via G-net, but it was terrible: MP3s stutters badly. I presume buffering should be one one to tweak. No idea how. Player was the original on N770.

DivX's with MPlayer through SMB is out of the picture. The device is a toy.

OP, check out Media Streamer (which is made by Nokia).

Blog post about it here

You need to install a UPnP compliant server on your computer (but this is very straightforward).

I have set the EsounD daemon on my 770 to listening mode so I can redirect the sound output from my Linux server to the 770. On the server I have Music Player Daemon running and on Nokia I use Glurp as a frontend to it.

For listening to music on MMC I use the default audio player with OGG support installed and UKMP.

Not nessecarily a very fast net connection. Personally when I'm out, especially at work, I use my 770 to tune into a Shoutcast server I'm running off my laptop at home which is being fed by my winamp sitting on random all day, slightly different but still. I've got a 512kbit upload on my connection, and can get 96kbit and sometimes 128kbit streams from my shoutcast server without stuttering.

It must be just me but I have about 10 cds on my memory card and I use Canola to play it back in my car. I don't even use my ipod any more that cost as much as 2 770's. and i love the speaker, just when you want to listen with out headphones, it is not great sound but it is better then not hearing anything.
just my thoughts.

but the thing I am looking at is putting OS to memory card everyone is raving about it. But then again in the car I wont be able to stream. Also my ISP at home only has an upload of 128kb and I am running a server. Maybe I can use my memory card and make 2 partitions. 1 for a swap and the other for my music. hmmm
