hi,

i just received my 770 today and started playing with it for the last 6 hours...
i'm not a real techie (though i pretend to be one in front of my friends), but somehow i did manage to install the os2007 update. so far, i've encountered two major issues and i was wondering if you could help me... the questions may be dumb so please bear with me:

1. on the maemo site, i noticed some bug fixes listed. how do i install them onto my 770? when i tried downloading the patch, it didn't give me an option to "install" like other programs

2. also, i tried to install gpe-calendar and my 770 gave me an error. however, i was able to install gpe-contacts... what gives?

if anyone could help me out, i'd certainly appreciate it.

thanks,
sam

The installation process seems to be not very consistent to me but this is my experience with yesterday's update to the N800 "camera" application. I browsed to the garage.maemo.org download page for the update and clicked on the new file (which had a .deb extension). I thought it would initiate the update process in Application Manager like has happened for some other updates. Instead, the "Open" option in "file download" was greyed-out and I could only "Save" the file (which I did, to my N800). Then I used File Manager to browse to the folder where the file was saved and clicked on the file that I downloaded. At this point, the Application Manager kicked in and I could proceed to "update" the Camera application. I am confused as to why it is sometimes easy as one or two clicks and other times takes more steps?

By the way, the "Search" feature at the top of the forum page (not Search this thread" works wonders in finding the answers to all your questions - believe me they have all been asked before!! Have fun with your 770.

To get the IT2007HE on your 770 in the first place- goto Nokia's website find the 770 and download the software called : Nokia Internet Tablet Software Update Wizard; then plug your 770 by USB into the PC (THE 770 MUST BE TURNED OFF!) hold down the Home botton and turn on- if there is a USB symbol; Run the sofware from Nokia; follow the normal stuff untill you come to a Update software bit- click on changed- find your 2007HE file and change! Let it update and then you go- 2007HE fully running.

Blah!

My experience with the 770 is that if you try to install it, and it doesnt work, but it *should* work, then you are missing respositories. Maybe if you post the exact error you got we could help you out a bit more with that.

If you get a .deb file extension you can install it with

Code:
dpkg --install filename.deb
from a terminal. (if you have one)

hi,

my first question is related to the page on this link:
http://maemo.org/community/wiki/os2007on770/

i think i misunderstood what the modifications meant. the changes listed on this page are actually the modifications made on the os2007he... this basically answers my first question.

regarding my 2nd question, i just gave up and installed another contact and date software and they seem to be working fine.

i do have one new problem regarding email. i tried to setup my gmail account on my n770 email program, but when it tries to access my account i keep on getting an error that says something like "pop error, could not access your account." i rechecked and checked again my user names, pop/smtp accounts, passwords and my gmail settings (to activate pop account), but no luck. my google talk and gaim seems to be working fine though... any ideas?

thanks in advance everyone. this site and maemo respository site have made my experience playing with n770 very enjoyable thus far.

Gmail is funny on the port settings, they need to be set right else it wont work. Use: http://mail.google.com/support/bin/a...y?answer=13287 make sure you test out the settings by trying to receive and send an email (send an email to yourself, tests both )
