As above. How does the 770 know that the cover is on?

It works well for me, but I can't tell how it knows.

Thanks.

Through the magic of magnets.

i was actually wondering this too. I tried messing with that little clip thingy, that the lid snaps on to, but it didn't do any thing.

There is a small magnet embedded in one of the side edges of the cover that triggers some sort of microswitch on the 770. There is nothing special about the magnet. I have been able to trigger the switch with a regular magnet. I can't remember if the polarity was important or not as it was a while back. So if it doesn't work one way, flip the magnet around and try again.

Thanks very much. I'll get some magnets now and investigate further.
Cheers.

When looking at the 770 without the cover on just under the 'home' button there is a small rectangle, I believe this is where the magnet sensor thingy is, and on the cover it must be in the corresponding position.

just put a paper clip on the inside of your cover, it look me like 5 seconds to find the magnet

On the software side, I believe the ke-recv daemon is responsible for mapping lid events into os-actions - at least this is true for the switches in the battery and mmc compartments
