Hi, I had some problems with my N9 and decided to reflash with nokia software updater. I took one backup with Nokia Link and one backup with the N9's backup function which I copied to the PC.

Now after the reflash I get an error message saying :
There was a problem with restoring the program backup-essentials-tracker. The phone will now reboot and continue the process.

Everything works fine except that all my mms and sms don't get restored. I have contacts synced with google contacts in the cloud so that's not needed.
Anyone know why this is happening and if there's a possibility to extract and restore the messages from either of the backups I've made?

use mass storage mode and look for the backup in the folder called .backups (/home/user/MyDocs/.backups).

you'll see the different files one named messaging.zip. simple delete everything except for backup.metadata and messaging.zip then try to restore. it'll give you an error at the end of restore but your messaging should be intact.

P.S. do remember to make a copy of the original backup before deleting.

Hey,
thanks for the suggestion. I did try and I do get an error message which says somehting about:
Could not restore
tracker-backup
gf-conf

and so on, it disappears too fast .

Still don't get the text messages back though. When I browse the file system in the messages all I can see are MMS. messaging.zip\Root\home\user\.mms\msg\
I opened the trackerbackup file which is located
\contacts.zip\Root\home\user\MyDocs\.tmp\trackerba ckup in wordpad. In there I could make out that there were sms messages but maybe that database is only for the tracker/smart search function in the phone?
Tried restoring with both contacts.zip, messaging.zip and backup.metadata but still don't get any sms or mms messages back .

You need to edit backup.metadata and remove the sections that you don't want to restore. You also (probably) need to recalculate the number of files and size to reflect the removed sections. If you delete everything but messages, just copy the numbers. This worked for me.
