So I was thinking recently (a new thing, hurts me head a little) if it is possible to connect N9 directly to a external hdd or an SD card reader, or a digital camera and transfer files between those without using a PC (or mac for that matter)?
Example of usefulness: you're on a trip and want to free up some space in your camera for extra photos so you store old ones on your N9. Another one: friend brings you some data on their hdd and you just copy it on your N9 - stuff like that.
I can't find a solution online - does anybody think it is feasible at all? Maybe a new app, perhaps? Or new usability of app such as filebox to be able to detect external memory connected to the device?

I don't think that's possible, because unlike the N8 or other Symbian^3 phones the N9 doesn't support USB OTG.

usb otg was being worked on afaik but it has been all quiet on that front. Don't hold your hopes too high for this becoming possible anytime soon.

Oh, so that's how it called - usb otg... Well, since now I know how to call the feature I was looking for I think this thread may be closed, since I guess it was discussed before - unless somebody who is working on it could comment?

There is a thread at FMC covering N9 hostmode:

I went through FMC thread and it doesn't look promising unfortunately... On the other hand, another thought - assuming my camera has na eye-fi SD card ( http://www.eye.fi/ ) or wifi capability in the hardware, is it possible to use a N9 as a host of wireless network and copy files over the air?

@don.edri
It looks like you can if you install Nitdroid

There isn't an SDcard inside the n9 but a soldered in emmc, it would be a lot of work even if it were possible.

I really hope that the hostmode work will be fruitful. Hostmode was a pretty awsome feature with the N900, it would be a great addition to the N9 as well.
