I know the swipe ui is pretty much locked in and it's impossible to mod but man it would be cool if I could switch between programs that are running like alt-tabbing in windows.

So my idea would be that swiping from the sides it would switch to your next program running or show all the running programs in a 3d rotating fashion. Now the functionality would be:
swipe from top -> close program
swipe from left or right -> switch between running programs
swipe from bottom -> minimize program

I think this is just a dream of mine but it would be a big improvement to the multitasking functionality imo

No.

It would create confusion

Remember, Nokia's (at least at the begining) intention was to make N9 more appealing to mainstream users.
And the swipe UI was praised universally because it was beautiful, but most of all ---> simple. even a 5 year old could understand and make it his own.

I Have something like that. You can change what each swipe does with an app in the store.

Sorry, was just checking, its called SwipeManager. It does not use a background app so no battery drain increase.

it's called swipe manager, but it's not working any more though
//edit: rechecked and it works, but not for "close" event afaik unless it's on "swipe down"
