It's that way by design.

You can print the documents to pdf and watch them on your n800. Google for a free pdf driver (http://www.primopdf.com/ for instance)

There seems to be a doc reader here:

http://maemo.org/downloads/product/docreader/

I think it will just convert the doc file to text or pdf but I assume that it does this on the actual tablet.

Search this forum for abiword. This should open your word files, at least those not-so-complex. In my hands, the 2.2.7 version is more stable. Hopefully, a newly compiled version will be published by Megabyte405, a forum frequenter.

Yeah, AbiWord is coming. For XL files, get Gnumeric - works great, used it just the other day. maemo.org has a single click installer I think.

Where can I get a downloadable / install version of Abiword 2.4.2 for my Nokia 770? Or is a newer version just as good?

Gnumeric is fantastic. It's been able to handle everything (admittedly relatively simple, I suppose) that I've thrown at it).

The only version of Abiword that currently runs somewhat stable (but still lacking) is version 2.2.7. Can't wait for a newer version.

R.

I noticed you have a N800 - are you referring to stability in regards to that unit? It is my understanding Abiword is currently optimized for the 770.

There is a -- IMHO -- very stable version 2.2.7 for N800. It's not Holdonized and not exactly what I'd call feature-packed (although I consider the latter usually a plus), but it works well.

Still hoping some coding genius gets around to porting LyX though...
