I have an AVI file captured by my Canon camera that plays in Windoze Media Player, but won't play with Canola or regular Media Player on N800. What do I need to play it on my N800?

Thanks,

Bill

Avi is just a container-format. You need to know which codec is used for audio- and video-compression. Perhaps it would be helpfull to know which camera from Canon you have.
Nut the best way to watch Videos on the N800 is to convert them.

Hi.

That's great information! I've been using avidemux2 to convert my AVI files to mpg format so I can watch them on my N800. I'll give MediaConverterLinux a try.

Most camera videos *should* play in mplayer (although how successfully will depend on resolution)

Most cams either use mpeg 4 which plays superbly in mplayer, or mjpeg, which probably sucks the living power out of n800, but should run up to 320x240 resolution.

MediaConverterLinux works great. It converted my 500+ MB MP4 files into AVI successfully. I was able to watch those AVI files on the N800 without any problem. The N800 refused to play the original MP4 files, probably because of their resolution. I read somewhere in this forum that the built-in player would not accept any resolution that's not a multiple of 16.

I tried mplayer, but it choked on those MP4 files. The interface isn't very user-friendly, either.
