Hi, as the title suggests, I'm hitting a wall when installing filebox. I have contacted Cepi but have had no reply.

When I install Filebox, I get a dependency warning about bzip2 being required., the dependency is not met and the app fails to install.

I have tried to 'apt-get install bzip2' and many other apt-get/apt-cache commands, but still with no luck.

So, how can I get Filebox on to my N900??

My N900 is CSSU 21.2011.38-1 (stable)

That's what I see, too. Looks like bzip2 isn't in any of the usual repos.

It is here if you want to do a manual install and see if that helps. Maybe this was a package in the now extinct* nokia.com repos that didn't ever get into maemo.org . . .

Ya, that's it. Check out this thread about a mirror of the nokia and ovi repositories. I bet that will do the trick.

*perhaps "extirpated" is more the appropriate term

Both answers are definitely good.
Go for the second one and disable all old Nokia repos.

Or just install manually via provided link. what you are doing. Do not add the SDK repo if you do not know what you are doing.

Filebox is no longer maintained.
I would recommend using hamsterfiler instead.

I have not seen a hamsterfiler update for ages either but I would definitely second this suggestion. Hamster is how a mobile file manager should look. Once I tried that, anything else, including on any other mobile platform, looks like a work of an amateur.

Thanks for heads-up regarding no more support of Filebox - which I guessed as much, as I never did receive a reply from Cepi. oh well, sorted now.

I ended up using Hamster Filer when I realised I could no longer install Filebox and yet despite it's lack of support, I simply prefer using Filebox when using my N900 and thanks to the answers above, I now have Filebox installed!

Regards,

I completely agree.
You only have to browse the code of both to see how well coded hamsterfiler is.
I don't think hamsterfiler needs any updates but I am sure if required gidzzz would get round to it. I imagine a large amount of the developers "Maemo time" goes into OMP as that was inherited code compared to hamster.

It's a very well thought out application hamster and has no awkward dependencies from other repos like alternatives.
