This paywalled article in the WSJ http://www.wsj.com/articles/softbank...ion-1468808434 reports that Softbank, owner of Sprint among other things, has bought UK based ARM, whose processor designs are used everywhere in everything from N900s to iPhones

Anything below the 2000p range is an absolute steal. With IOT, Servers & Apple likely shifting wholesale (save Mac Pros) to ARM in the medium term, I wouldn't have been surprised to see their price hit £30-35 in 3-4 years, especially with weak Sterling and most of their revenue being $ based.

Don't believe for a minute that they'll "double jobs at the UK operation".

ARM's an IP licensing company ... Softbank will milk it for a bit, then sell it to a Japanese tech company for more than twice the price, who will offshore almost everything back to Japan eventually.

Softbank is a Japanese tech company - -so they may have accomplished step two already.

ohh the brexit.
Given current currency drop, they pay ~30% less then they would have to some weeks ago. Clever move.

But still... 32GEur it is a huge investment... It's like five times what M$ paid for the Nokia devices division.
Softbank sure has deep pockets.

They sure do. A few years back they paid $22 Billion for a l'il ol' Kansas telephone company.

Or at least their banks have deep pockets.

Softbank sold $Billions of Alibaba shares recently, that should go some way towards the Arm purchase.
