2007He2007.36-2 MMC 2006OS flash/MMC 2G streaming Podcast shows

Ever since I have the 770, this is the first time i have seen it streamed video, not music, so gracefully, pretty, smooth, no stutter and easy, no cut-paste, click stream video! Hurray, I finally taught a pig to dance, salute. And it worths all the effort to upgrade to from 2006OS, I just checked, it is not listed for 770.

Dont just shake your head, see to belief, I am watching podcast streaming, not download, actually streaming, unbelievable, oh, yes, on my 770, you bet.

bear with me, the famous bun step-by-step, dont blame me if you turn it into a brick, I tried it and it worked.

The info has been gathered over several threads, blogs, and maemo.org, way too lazy to gather them, google them if you want to find the original and give credits to, I just follow:

streaming video with video center on 770 step-by-step
=========================================
1) of course, have to upgrade to 2007He the latest edition, 2007.36-2
2) This is the key part, I think Milhouse suggested it in other threads, install mplayer for 770, not n800.

maemo.org search for mplayer, click mplayer>homepage>garage project page> (Augus 8, 2007) download> choose the 2nd file, the one mplayer_1.0rc1-maemo.18n770_armel.deb, again, the n770 version, not the n800 version. Click the file, and just wait, it will install by self. I am sure there is another easy way to do it, but that is how I got it.

3) go app manager>browse installable apps>all>video center, install it. I saw it also came up on maemo.org, not quite sure how different it is, I used the one from 2007He.

4) user manual, , you will stumble and failed to make it work if not for this, http://blog.locationist.net/2007/09/...-with-mplayer/. BAM, you are streaming video, smoothly, for the first time.

One caveate, you have to manually turned off the mplayer by tapping the 'X', changing screen sometime sends the 770 to the twilight zone requiring a reboot.

These are my installed version:

mplayer 1.0rc1-maemo.18.n770
vc-epg-widget 0.0.33
video center 2.0.32
video center-ci-plugins-base 0.0.16
videocenter-plugins 2.0.15

I read some of us saying "Nokia just hate 770 users ". Nay, Nokia just want the 770 users play hide and seek!

post back your experience,

Ummmmm, I am watching another podcast show, what, no fastforward?

just get a glimpse of so called rocketboom.com from the videocenter, it is like comedy central/Mtv style, a commentator was saying today is 9/17/2007, the day when Linux was launched 1991. Is that true, and it shows a penguine, the symbol of linux, and picked up something called ipod and throw it off screen.......

I know the whole story of bill gate and micro$oft, never new Linux was so early, 1991, um.

Wow, this seriously works for you? I installed 2007HE this morning, my package listing and versions precisely match yours....

nothing. it freezes when trying to load _any_ video.

I hope others have better luck.

Just posted a list of channel 'watchable' on the 770, please see list, http://www.internettablettalk.com/fo...8533#post78533,

[QUOTE Not very knowlegeble regarding TV stream, the Nokia videocenter does offer some clues, http://videocenter.garage.maemo.org/VC_Formats.html. For internet videoes, it supports .MP4, .3PG, .XML, and .avi, .mpg to some extent depends on format, no luck with .M4V. I have Systm, InDigital, Diggnation, MobuzzTV, PodshowTV, Rocketboom streaming video with Videocenter 100% functioning; I have Street Fury, The Totally Rad show, Ripe TV-Podcast, dl then media player or mplayer with very little problems. QUOTE]

I re-read my post just to make sure every single word is correct........the last statement of fastforward is meant as a joke, media player has a scroll bar, is 100% capable of fastforward (and does NOT send the 770 to twilight zone ) whereas mplayer is out of luck, there is no fastforward with the standard edition. Somebody good at mplayer make a modification, yes? no? maybe?

Just to make sure i am not confusing anybody. Streaming video means video starts to play almost right away after a few seconds click on the media, similar to waiting for a browser page to load, this includes files as big as 300 Mb, and it does NOT leave a copy on your device after finishing watching. While, dl means one has to wait for the whole file to finish dl to your device and then able to watch, a small file like 10 MB will usually wait around 5 min to finish dl and the button changed from a white 'Download' to a green 'Play'. I usually click 2 to 3 files for dl altogether. Sometimes all 3 dl finish, sometimes 3 files dl sent the 770 to twilight zone, never have problem with 2 files dl.

Another observation when using the videocenter, DO NOT erase the media file from PC with USB hooked up. One has to painstakingly delete the media file one by one using the 770 or go into xterm. I attempted to delete some media files using my PC when USB cable happened to be hooked up for other purpose, 770 made a backup copy in the recycle folder for every files deleted! This must be obvious to a Debian user, but caught this newbie by big surprise .

how big is your memory card? other than that i can't see how our setups are any different... i only have the default 64mb card.
a few hours of toying with it to no avail, i finally just uninstalled the whole deal. whether it was set to use media player ir mplayer, whether it downloaded or streamed, whether it saved on internal or external memory...
no go. are you sure there's no steps you're forgetting to mention? or is there anyone else that this has worked for that can chime in?

New upgrade is now available, http://www.internettablettalk.com/fo...ed=1#post79615

https://garage.maemo.org/frs/shownot...release_id=926
http://repository.maemo.org/extras/d...center.install

I clicked the 2nd link and it installed without a glitch, it took about 5+ minutes though.

My Video center seems working, the versions after upgrade,
mplayer 1.0rc1-maemo.18.n770
vc-epg-widget 0.0.33
videocenter 2.0.41
videocenter-ci-plugins-base 0.0.16
videocenter-plugins 2.0.15

Upon loading, the VC about upgraded from 2007.38-1 to 2007.38-2

before upgrade,
mplayer 1.0rc1-maemo.18.n770
vc-epg-widget 0.0.33
video center 2.0.32
video center-ci-plugins-base 0.0.16
videocenter-plugins 2.0.15

Apparantly only the VC 2.0.32 has been changed.

My system: 2007He2007.36-2 Flash/MMC 2G w MMCplus patch

It now loads the external player correctly, other than that, I failed to see too much difference, it still hangs the 770 when streaming fails..........that requires to remove the battery to reboot. Both 2007.38-1 and 2007.38-2 does the same, no improvement, sadly to say. The only good thing about the upgrade is it shows Nokia apparantly working on the VC

On the videocenter, I prefer streaming than dl and watch. Because streaming you do not have to wait for the whole file to dl (could be 15 min for a large file) and do not leave a copy on the 770 and takes up space. However, when streaming does not work, it hangs the 770. And during the early phase of hanging, like a couple of seconds, you can get out by pressing the escape button. Once it passed the early phase, you have to take out the battery.

At first I thought ALL the problems of streaming failure are:
- loss streaming signal, either the source or the receive end, router problems
- 770 problem, software or hardware

Well, I never thought about the file itself could be a problem. I dl about 20 of these podcastshows, podcastTV whatevers, and watch them under my PC, it turns out 6 out of 20 are 'damaged files'. Very interesting.

In other words, the VC's erractic behavior, which most blame on beta release, 770 shortcomings etc, in fact, is an inherent problems of encoding, the file itself could be problematic. Or, my router indeed is unstable 6 out of 20 times...........
