Re: Aluminum case interferring with N810 GPS
If you really need GPS, an external bluetooth unit is the way to go. You can put it wherever you like, and where it gets good reception. There are keychain models available that reportedly work...

Re: Aluminum case interferring with N810 GPS
Metal will definitely block GPS signals, as will water. But if you want protection, metal is superior to leather or plastic. You could remove the NIT from the case when you need to use the GPS, but...

Re: PIM Contest
The gold standard of PIMs is simple - Palm perfected PIMs years ago, and still has the best, by a wide margin. Nobody else has come close.

Re: The n800: Ultimate Computer for Air Travel
GPS receivers download an almanac from the satellites, in order to know what satellites to look for. If you turn your GPS off and move it a few thousand miles, it has no idea you did that, and will...

Re: open source gps software
It's not topo per se, but it can be. It will take any raster map and use it. It has to have an internet connection to get a route, but you can download the route before leaving, and get turn by...

Re: Is it Nokia, or FedEx's fault?
If you're missing a dependency, then install that file. Free software isn't usually as polished as commercial software, especially the installation features. If you're getting it for free, then you...

Re: just migrated from PalmOS, with tips
Fuelpad (https://garage.maemo.org/projects/fuelpad/) is the one I've seen. I've downloaded and installed it, but haven't actually used it yet, because I'm still carrying my Lifedrive because of the...

Re: EEE PC or Laptop
The card should work with no problem. The 2GB model may be a little limiting for storage, but it should be OK, I guess. You have to jump through a lot of hoops to get programs to run from an SD...

Re: Freedom Keychain GPS
GPS receivers don't require much current. Computers require much, much more. Put a 5Ahr battery in a Nokia, and it will keep going for a long time. Those are big and expensive, though.

To get the maps for MM, just set the default location for the maps, under Maps, Manage Repositories, and then have it download the route. It will get the maps for you if you have "Autodownload maps"...

You can't get directions without an internet connection. If you don't have a cellphone data plan, you'll need to download the routes before leaving home. You can't just enter an address at any...

Re: Maemo Mapper and GPS/Google map issues...
Trying to download at any zoom level higher than 4 is a waste, IMO. That's more than enough detail for me. The Holux isn't the latest technology, and needs a clear view of the sky. In your car, it...
