My guess was that it means: "Do not include into this menu/sub-menu anything that belongs to other menu already"... And it looks like my guess is right since it works this way as I see.

Adding the <your_file>.desktop you won't "mess with X terminal" that much... ;) You won't touch/edit any configuration files/whatever_else you have in the phone, but just adding a new shortcut...

The strange thing happened after I did move my specific *.directory and *.desktop files to symbolic links. I haven't got a continuously rebooting n900, but it was never showing the menu again... GUI...
