Re: What phone are you going to get after the N900 ??

One thing not mentioned yet that I'm missing. Notification light! Having to unlock the screen to check the notification bar is nowhere near as efficient.

Re: What phone are you going to get after the N900 ??

As I mentioned elsewhere, I've recently 'replaced' my N900 with a Samsung Galaxy SII which seems to fulfil my day to day needs based on a couple of day's usage.

Having said that, my N900 will...

Re: [Announce] CSSU stable release

Awesome stuff! Great to see a CSSU Stable at last! At least no-one can accuse the (most excellent) people involved of rushing it! :-D

Re: The in-development Maemo 5 Community SSU

I had a broken packages problem which I managed to fix by firing up HAM and disabling various repos followed by a re-enable. I guess the forced refresh/update allowed the system to 'see' the broken...

Re: PETITION to Nokia to release the full source code of the Maemo OS to this Community.

I voted yes. As far as I'm concerned, Nokia have nothing to loose as I will never buy another Nokia product with the current Microsoft agreement in place. However, I would really like my N900 to...

Re: Insanely slow app manager

I found App Manager in particular was a lot quicker after I changed swappiness from the default 100 to something a bit saner! I did it 'manually' but Swappolube (http://wiki.maemo.org/Swappolube)...

Re: How to use root within script/program?

Setuid maybe? Here's an explainiation (http://www.cyberciti.biz/faq/unix-bsd-linux-setuid-file/) I pretty much picked at random from a Google search.

Re: What are the options? WebOS, Android or iOS?

The more I think about it, the more WebOS seems like an option! As it stands, it'd be WebOS followed by Android followed by iOS if I were desperate! However by the time I need to replace my N900,...

Re: breaking news:nokia partners with microsoft

I fully concur with the sentiments expressed that this is, in effect, a Nokia/Microsoft suicide pact! My next phone will now, beyond doubt, be a Nexus S or similar.

Re: 2010 sees large scale increase in smartphone trojans

Rumours? Nope. That's pretty much how I run my home network. Not sure what you're getting at on the whitelist point though... Total cost of protecting my Linux machines? £0.

Re: 2010 sees large scale increase in smartphone trojans

What I got from that article was:
"Don't get an Apple product and if you've got an Android device, be careful what you install."

It all boils down to the same sensible precautions you'd take on a...

Fear not, GParted is a GUI (http://gparted.sourceforge.net/screenshots.php). The commonly circulated FUD that you have to use the command line to use Linux is just that. FUD...

Re: tablet-encode

Great tip! I needed to do that & ended up using Handbrake to rip then tablet-encode to convert. I love all the cool stuff you can do on the command line if you know how!!!

I've just started using tablet encode. It sure beats messing about with Handbrake as I'd been trying previously! :D

Re: does anyone know how to do a offline install in n900

As we're basically talking about Debian here, I'm sure you could download a .deb file and copy/move it to your n900 and then run (as root) dpkg -i whateverthe packageis.deb

Simple(ish)...
