What kind of message do you get? I tested this with dpkg -i fm-carkit_0.2-1_armel.deb and using the application manager.
Btw my n900 is on PR 1.3

Thanks to Aranel, helping me packing the fm-carkit application.
I haven't tested it without the patched version of fmtxd, so I will do that and if it's not working then I add this to the todo...

you have to compile the source within for example a scratchbox environment, and copy the created binary to your phone.
You can compile the source with the 'make' command.

Store the original sound settings before routing the sound,
"Phone number can be transmitted by RDS to the radio BEFORE accepting the call."...

phonenumber as rds text should be simple with the fmtx_client.
