I just uploaded the Wlan tool which will help configuring PAP support. The support is hidden in PR 1.2 so you need this application to enable it.
Install the app, run it and enable the EAP/PAP....

Finally EAP-TTLS+PAP authentication for WiFi is supported. This is used in many universities worldwide.
Yay!
But you've to install an app called "wlan tool" to enable the EAP-PAP authentication...

I dont want to slide my keyboard for searching. This is where that option "Search" comes handy. Silly, they removed it completely assuming every N900 user uses N900 with Slide out keyboard.

I also had zero experience in Linux but I went ahead and took the risk of Installing UBUNTU in Windows as it can be risky at times.
I have Win 7 64 bit so i have that USB device not found error...

If possible, you should return it. The amount you've put into purchasing N900 is huge and Maemo is a new half baked OS.
I have learnt a lesson that never buy a half baked OS but on a personal note...
