Re: Microsoft buying Nokia's devices & services

You are about 2,5 years late.

RIP Nokia was in 2011 (Elopcalypse). It just took a while to bury the corpse.

Re: Microsoft buying Nokia's devices & services

A big FU to Micro$oft and Elop.

A bigger FU to Nokia for letting it happen.

Sailfish (Jolla), Tizen and Ubuntu for Phones: Differences?

I admit I'm lost. Until only a few weeks ago, Tizen seemed to be more of a theoretical possibility than a real option. Ubuntu for mobile devices was a long-term strategy rather than an operating...

Re: Jolla phones: not so open

The orginal Jolla thread has already degenarated into 100 or pages about the same matter. Lively discussion about semantics of few words in interviews, both fanboism and hatred before any product...

Re: JollaMobile : Jolla continues Nokia's excellent work on #MeeGo based smartphones

I simply don't care if the UI is closed, I can replace it with another one (e.g. xterm :p). Now, if the drivers are closed, I have no way to install a newer kernel, which in turns will preclude me...

Re: JollaMobile : Jolla continues Nokia's excellent work on #MeeGo based smartphones

So, if they want we could house their product facilities here.

I'm actually an Electronics...

Re: JollaMobile : Jolla continues Nokia's excellent work on #MeeGo based smartphones

I don't think that the second wish is possible. Last mobile company that had real Western plants was Nokia, not anymore.

To even dream about having manufacturing somewhere here in Europe would...

Re: JollaMobile : Jolla continues Nokia's excellent work on #MeeGo based smartphones

And for the record, JollaMobile is not Mer. Mer is not JollaMobile. JollaMobile uses and contributes to Mer. Mer is a mobile core (without UIs and Hardware adaptations), usable and used by many...

Re: JollaMobile : Jolla continues Nokia's excellent work on #MeeGo based smartphones

I don't even expect or demand high-end hardware or anything that's ahead of the market feature-wise. All I want is an open system that's not tied to a specific "cloud", to a specific "ecosystem", to...
