You may be having the same "problem" I had when I first used my N800. The headphone jack is quite tight and despite the fact you think you may have plugged the headphones in completely this may not...

/usr/share/lxdoom/wad is owned by root so to use the filemanager you'd (probably) need to start that as root.

I'd use the command line if I were you (run as root):
