No, this simply isn't true nor does it make any sense. Nokia is not Microsoft (nor Apple), and they don't make one red cent from maemo or ITOS, so preventing users from using alternatives to ITOS...

Is it? What browser is it using? I have a 770 and used the 800, and they are not as good as the iPod touch. Is the 810 really that much better?

Yes, the included media player plays wavs fine. (I don't think it can play 24-bit wavs though)
Just as God_f@ther says, remember that once new Nokia Tablets come out, Nokia isn't going to leave...

I would reccomend the N810 (which i have myself).
A friend of mine have a 16Gb iPod Touch, and of course i've been comparing them.
This is at least a list of features the touch does not have, but...
