Re: n810 vs htc touch vs ipod toucb
Java is available from the jalimo project. However, when I tried it recently the J2ME support was not all there - so apps that "run on any cellular phone" probably won't work. Also somewhat slow IMO,...

Re: n810 vs htc touch vs ipod toucb
There's a third reason why some parts of ITOS are closed: Nokia management (at some point in the 770 development cycle, at least) thought their UI was value-add on top of Maemo, and a USP (unique...

Re: Nokia is porting Ubuntu to ARM
It is all actually EABI (armel) even though they say "arm" in the arch field and the .deb filenames.... They plan to make different versions for different arm chips, instead of having one big...

Re: n810 vs htc touch vs ipod toucb
No, this simply isn't true nor does it make any sense. Nokia is not Microsoft (nor Apple), and they don't make one red cent from maemo or ITOS, so preventing users from using alternatives to ITOS...

Re: n810 vs htc touch vs ipod toucb
This means that you will essentially get nokia's permission before any OS can have a chance in hell of taking over maemo. I don't see Nokia giving permission for a competing OS anytime soon. Heck,...

Hmm so looks like its built for 770 (armv5) and 800/810 (armv6 + vfp)

Re: n810 vs htc touch vs ipod toucb
Define "as functional". Poky certainly isn't, but Debian definitely opens up a lot (the whole Debian armel catalog, in fact) more options (especially to the developer or power user)*and Mamona, while...

The most inaccurate N810 description ever?
I wonder if the people at Tesco.com actually saw an N810 before writing this...
The list of features is even more random! And we won't mention the slightly steep price.

Re: PSP or N810 for me?
There are no really commercial developments of any sort. I was going to ask about that in another thread. Do you think that the 'open source' of the tablets actually prevents commercial efforts, that...

Re: PSP or N810 for me?
I'm in Vancouver so I'm pretty close to you.
1. Why do you want an N810? Unless you want that GPS ability, I think you'll be extremely happy with an N800 (at $230 at TigerDirect instead of $420...

Re: 2009 Tablet?
My money is on Fall 2008—we're in need of the generational upgrade, and that's about the time OMAP3 will really be up to speed.
Assuming we don't get anything out of left field, OMAP3430 is...

Re: n810 vs htc touch vs ipod toucb
Is it? What browser is it using? I have a 770 and used the 800, and they are not as good as the iPod touch. Is the 810 really that much better?

On that note, WeBot works as advertised.
As Mike says, unless you're limiting your use to around the house, you're going to need extra storage. That where I decided to forego the keyboard and GPS...

If this is meant for use in the home, you can theoretically forgo the extra local storage and play media off of shared storage on your network from another machine. I've done this on family member's...

Re: N810 vs. Ipod Touch
Nah, I'd recommend getting the N800 and spend USD150 on 2 16GB A-Data Class 6 SDHCs. How does 30GB of media space grab you? On the downside, battery life on video playback is significantly lower than...

Yes, the included media player plays wavs fine. (I don't think it can play 24-bit wavs though)

Re: N810 vs. Ipod Touch
I would reccomend the N810 (which i have myself).
A friend of mine have a 16Gb iPod Touch, and of course i've been comparing them.
This is at least a list of features the touch does not have, but...
