No. New alarmd uses RTC kernel interface for alarms. Check maemo5.0-beta2 alarmd (1.1.8+0m5), src/hwrtc.c.

Are you running it on a 64bit machine? AFAIK amd64 is not supported for debian etch.

alarmd* uses retutime in initfs (sudo gainroot and chroot /mnt/initfs/ retutime) to set the time for the device to wake up. No idea if this would have to keep being set everytime it has woken up but...

source /etc/osso-af-init/af-defines.sh
or
Prefix the maemo-summoner command with "run-standalone.sh"
