Actually, more does hurt... more memory means more memory cells that need to be refreshed every few seconds, meaning more battery power is sapped just keeping the memory active and returning correct...

You might want to read the follow articles discussing the development of the 12MP sensor in the N8 - the large sensor (4000x3000 pixels) is put to very good use when recording video.
