I use Modrana on N900. It's also available on N9, but provides less features. Nevertheless, this application stores maps offline, and might be capable of offline routing....

the cellular antennae is at the bottom of the phone, so that could likely be why the 'death grip' kills...

That was discussed in the tracker, some "fixes" were proposed that should be doable & relatively simple.
But they never responded; although last I checked it was "assigned" to someone only recently...

I'm not certain, but I believe there may be difficulties disabling WiFi & keeping BT active due to the shared radio.
