Re: Neo900 - finally a successor of N900
@BaronKatz,
I have an extensive experience with upgrading old hardware and you can trust me when I tell you that doubling the amount of RAM speeds up the machine at least 10x more than doubling the...

Re: Neo900 - finally a successor of N900
There aren't any 2 GigaByte RAM chips known which fit on an omap3. I also think an omap3 can't address 2GB of RAM in a sensible way, which might also explain why there aren't any POP chips with 2GB...

Please keep in mind that we don't aim at selling thousands of devices, for now. No sense in going to start a mainstream advertising campaign. And the device is not considered ready for prime time for...

Re: Neo900 - finally a successor of N900
I agree on your positive comments, but I am not as optimistic about the Neo900 taking the world by storm.
I think, fundamentally, people don't give a crap. They don't seem to care about anything....

Re: Neo900 - finally a successor of N900
"Neo900" moniker was an unparalleled stroke of genius. For Step2 (the internal project codename) we got no official name yet 1). What we got are ideas about e.g. which SoC to use, no surprise the...

that's the plan for Neo9001. When we have demonstrated we can do, we demonstrated there is a market, however niche. And we got some working OS, actually even a few ones, some of them...

Get out of your filter bubbles guys!
The "big players" aren't pushing something to the market that nobody wants except for some weird people who are only interested in bling. Otherwise they...

Re: Neo900 - finally a successor of N900
The problem is that nowadays most people want the shinies.
They want a phone that looks good (according to them), and that's it.
They don't care what's inside as long as it can run their dumb games...

there will be no orphaned devices since we start production for a device only _after_ we received payment for it. We do this since we a) don't have the money to build devices on our own and then...

Re: Neo900 - finally a successor of N900
I've read that the Pandora lasts about one week in standby and about a day in what desktop users call an "office scenario".
If the Pyra reaches similar results it would be pretty close to an N900.

I don't think that there is pessimism as much as it appears like some actually haven't read the thread here and hence are asking questions which have already been answered.
For myself I will be...

Re: Neo900 - finally a successor of N900
That's really not a problem. As was explained several times, installing pure Debian GNU/Linux will be pretty much supported out-of-box (and might be even installed out-of-box with our set of test...

Neo900 is a open device, and open devices run whatever OS you install on it (just like PC). If you install Maemo, it will run Maemo. If you install SHR, it will run SHR. If you install Debian... -...

AFAIK Neo900 aims to bee 100% compatible with Maemo and all the apps. The only downside is that most probably you will have to install Maemo yourself (Neo900 company doesn't have rights to...
