i dont think anythimg bad gona happen to your n900 after updating to latest thumb oth it should be the first thing to do on a fresh n900 .just backup in case and flashfiles are available in the web:)

Search for pirogi, mpd, bluemaemo ,ps3 sixaxis etc depending on your devices available in your home . Enjoy ..... Just dont forget to update your phone to cssu i would suggest you cssu thumb asap.
