Yes, I would try the main ribbon connector first.
It is very delicate and is a bit of an art to locate correctly.

Without trying to get your hopes too high, I am getting the impression that your phone is working fine, only the display misses the connection to the main board. It is easy to not push the connector...

The most important ting here is ESD protection, i blew the fuse in mine, but this was due to experimenting late at night and then reversing polarity of the homemade USB charging system........
