I received the new German translation and yes, it's about testing, but still it can be a bit frustrating if it does not work at all. Anyways, I'm happy that you see it this way and that you're not angry that you have wasted time on a (still) not existing translation...

Yea, should be fine. Honestly I have no idea what to try next. It's working for me, so maybe someone else could try to alter the Swedish translation. Maybe I've some kind of super powers because I'm the project admin ;)

I will see if I can do the translation in a file to you tomorrow.. I really liked this tool however. The "suggest translation" button is great and very quick for simple stuff (and its harder to do a typo with this)..

Jup, I got it at 12:27. So now we know that claesbas can edit translations other than Swedish and other people can edit the Swedish translation. Hmm... looks like claesbas has the wrong nationality ;)

Can you add me (filip) to the team ?

I've looked at the French localization, witch is very good.

Just on problem, not related to the localisation, but to the .po file format :

45 #: ../src/interface.c:906 ../src/interface.c:1009 ../src/interface.c:1047
46 msgid "Highlight"
47 msgstr "Surligné"

In this translation, you can use "Surligné" or "Surligner" (infinitif) or "Surlignage" (action of higlighting), without more information you can't translate this string correctly.
You need more context than the .po file give you.

The lack of context is a common problem and someday we will (hopefully) translate our strings directly inside the UI (or an emulated UI). Until then I'm not 100% sure what to do about this. Of course you can install the application and have a look at it, but it might not be possible because there might not be an installable version or you might not have a device. Another possibility would be that the project admin provides screen shots of the application, but that's probably only possible if the application has a very simple UI, otherwise there have to be just too many screenshots.

For the concrete problem: "Highlight" is inside the text style menu. It's there together with buttons like "Bold", "Italic", "Big", "Small", etc...

Maybe in this case the English term should be 'Highlighted' ? Then there would be no ambiguity.

Just for fun I was checking the French Tomboy translation.
Quote:

#: ../Tomboy/NoteWindow.cs:1294
msgid "_Highlight"
msgstr "_Surligné"

Do:

msgctxt "Button label; clicking highights the active selection"
msgid "Highlight"
msgstr ""

Instead of:

msgid "Highlight"
msgstr ""

IIRC your strings in the code will look somewhat like this:

_("Highlight", "Button label; clicking highights the active selection")

Or something similar. Then you can use the context string to give the translator enough information to choose the correct verb tense and grammatical option.

JosefA, I'll have a look at that when I find some free time. Thanks for the pointer!

It isn't that many strings. I could see if I can't give you a patch sometime this week.
