Just for me to understand the facts... Is the follwing correct?
Is that it? Or did I get it wrong again? |
Re: allbum art appearing in photos
I believe yes, the media player only interprets what's correctly embedded in the mp3 so those folder.jpgs or cover.jpgs are what's being picked up by tracker and placed into images. However, (I haven't looked at tracker's config yet) if you tell it not to scan the music directory then it won't pick up the media files when they're added. Yes, you could move the album art to another folder and not have that indexed but once another media player arrives and uses those images, what now.

Re: allbum art appearing in photos
So basically what you do is you copy pictures to the N900 that serve no purpose there and annoy you? - Why?
From my point of view,. what Maemo 5 does is correct. Album art goes into the MP3 file and is read from there. JPEG-files are just that: images... and treated as such. The more I think of it, the more I believe any other way ot treat it would be a bug. ;) |
Re: allbum art appearing in photos
Because if you want to use another media player that does use those .jpgs for cover art (as the N900 seems to be hit and miss for me. Two albums have no cover art despite having the same tagging scheme and versions as all the other album art) then you won't have cover art in that program. You could then argue then disable tracking for that folder but what if you want the default media player to still pick it up?
The best solution would just be to have tracker be configurable for what folders it scans and what it should include or not include when scanning those folders. |

Don't know much about what been open sourced, but an app, much like hermes would be awesome for collecting album art...

Re: allbum art appearing in photos
Before we get too carried away with making a UI for the tracker, am I alone in feeling that the tracker is fundamentally misguided?
Why is there a standalone media indexing service on my portable device when specifying a couple of library directories on a per-application basis would do just as well? In fact I would prefer this behavior. I'm not saying that indexing your media is bad, but the applications themselves can do that if required. Expecting album art to be embedded in your media files establishes a terrible precedent - not only is it misguided from a data association perspective, but it also forces you to store the same image on your device twelve times. In addition, it precludes support for formats which do not allow the use of ID3 tags (ogg). |
