Re: N900 Installable/working apps so far ...

Some of the apps I installed are essential apps.

Rootsh - gain root
OpenSSH - transfer files to desktop over wifi
Rdesktop/VNCviewer - remote connect to desktop
emelfm2 - there is a learning curve, hey, take the mystery of Linux away, excellent for newbies like myself, it is a very good FM and comes with a handy editor/renamer, highly recommend
DiskUsage - check your disk
Conky - sysinfo

Again, not quite sure about optification, so I report my rootfs space.

so far....

Re: N900 Installable/working apps so far ...

I've installed and tested these so far.

- ForecaWeather
- Petrovich
- Bounce Evolution
- Tennix!
- Recorder
- MasterGear
- Transmission
- eCoach
- Documents To-Go
- iNes
- Mad Bomber
- VNC Viewer
- Xournal
- SuperTux
- DialCentral
- ATI85 (Added TI-83 Rom)
- account-plugin-butterfly
- Ogg Support
- Decoders Support
- load-applet
- Pixelpipe Upload and Share
- rootsh
- Simple Brightness Applet
- TouchSearch

And so far, I haven't noticed any lag, slowness, crashes or anything like that since I first tried the N900..

How can I find out how much I have space I have on my root? So I can report back on how much I have left.

Thanks in advance,

Install DiskUsage or Conky, either one will have rootfs report. Thanks for the apps report, and the strong statement of how your N900 behave after all your apps installed.

Or
xterm
df
will also show rootfs space left

To install emelfm2
Go here, click the green installation button, save the file to N900 (or save to PC and transfer to N900)

On tablet,
xterm
sudo gainroot
goto the folder where the file was saved,
dpkg -i emelfm2-0.50-rev29.all.deb

Edit: optified version see thread #1

That is it.

Hello again bun,

I have checked my root space and it's 31.70MiB available...

I believe that either Transmission or the proftpd installed something on the root partition?? not sure will check into it more
and see what exactly is taking space in there.. (But imo 31.70 isn't that bad of a number :p)

xterm
df
will show rootfs space
or if you installed DiskUsage, click on the green block of rootfs, will show trees or maybe, the breakdown of file size. Or in App Manager>Uninstall will show each package total size. If all fails, GVM/RescoExplora will show size of each file/package, or search on this forum, there is a command to show package size, one by one though.

Oh, sure, 31.70 MB space is plenty, on the old N8x0, I know they are different, even 5 MB space left, system still runs smoothly as long as you are NOT using Fennec. :-)

Yes, with DiskUsage, I think error is with some dependency not met. Does it run?
