noobmonkey have you found some solutions... could my sensor be faulty or this is just a software problem?

Sorry haven't been actively looking for a fix for you! :P

Just realised the led's and the accelerometer have a self test function (adding them into healthcheck) - will take a look later if there is similar for the proximity sensor.
It wont help fix it but may give an error code.

So the only things i know directly about the proxi sensor are
In xterminal type the following:
Code:

cat /sys/devices/platform/gpio-switch/proximity/state
MY RESULT: open

Code:

cat /sys/devices/platform/gpio-switch/proximity/disable
MY RESULT: 1

Code:

cat /sys/devices/platform/gpio-switch/proximity/direction
MY RESULT: input

Code:

cat /sys/devices/platform/gpio-switch/proximity/type
MY RESULT: cover

They all produce values, and i'm no expert on what they mean, also found a hal related bug from a while ago here - https://bugs.maemo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=7070

My suggestion is list the results for each of the above, and lets see if they differ from other peoples?
(ensure that the proximity sensor is NOT covered during these tests, so we can all compare on an even keel) - my reults are written after each one above.

Sorry i can''t determine any more, but i suppose the more info we get the more it may help in understanding your issue.

Hi again, 10x a lot for looking into the problem.

So I did the "tests" an the results were exaclty like yours...

This could mean that my sensor is faulty, has a hardware problem... or could still be a software error?

For those with the proximity problem when making calls; it's a known hardware fault and nothing can be done about it. Read more about it here:

Hmmm not sure if it is faulty ... do the tests again with the proxi sensor covered, doe sthe first test show closed?

if so the proxi hardware is working :P

noobmonkey, if you read comment 61 it might help explain why the proximity sensor fails in sunlight.

You could add to your HealthCheck app a proximity sensor check and give people a prompt to check it in bright sunlight to see if it gives an incorrect reading.

you mean the ambient light sensor?

Re: Proximity sensor stopped working. Please help

No, the proximity sensor works with infa red light and direct sunlight can confuse it (not all phones are effected).

If you use a screen protector use a hole punch to make a hole in it where the proximity sensors is, this cured the problem for me.

The other way to over come the black screen when phone rings is to flick the lock switch, this will alow you to see the screen (unlocking with the power button does not work when phone rings)
