Thanks SOOOOO much! <3

ok so lets recap!!

1 N900 - 2 Sims - both are 3G Sims - 1 gets 3G the other doesn't?

correct??

if so....

are both sims on the same network?? are they both contract?? is one contract and one PAYG?? does your sim get 3g in another handset??

answer all of the above to rule out as many possibly problems as possible and it should be easy to determine where the problem lies.

OKI DOKI!!!

MY sim is on Orange
HIS sim is on O2
MY sim is contract
HIS sim is pay as you go
HIS phone doesn't support 3G so we can't test that unfortunately :/
MY contract definately has 3G available, its just THIS new sim that doesnt...

Does that help? :D

Thanks!

without you putting your sim in a 3g phone its hard to tell whether its faulty n900 software or a problem at oranges end, it sounds to me like an orange issue when they gave you the new sim, i work in the industry and believe me, networks DO NOT admit when they've caused a problem or give you much assistance in fixing it, why?? because they want to spend the precious phone time selling more contracts.

the 'thing' for me is that your friends sim works fine, which means your phone is in 3g mode, the firmware is installed correctly and communicating with the 3g gsm chip like normal,

so if you put your 3g sim into another 3g handset and have no connection, we have established that the problem is with Orange

good luck :)

Yeah it really seems so doesn't it? I will see if I can put it in another phone and if it is Orange I will call them up and make them fix it...even if I have to go down there myself! ;)

Thanks a lot mate, your a proper star, man!

p.s. the "Thank" button isn't there, or I would press it...

p.p.s. you are RIGHT....Orange keep telling me to speak to Nokia. I hope they can sort this problem out and not keep giving me "we don't have technical advice for N900's as they are not currently in our database..." BS, and can figure out a way to get their SIM cards to work 3G on one like the old one did :S

thats orange for you lol

ive sold loads of iphones on orange and the number of times they haven't connected the contract properly is real annoying, even then they take the stance, Cant fix Wont fix, Apple will fix BS..

haha, theres no trick, it all depends who you speak to on Orange's end, I know this post is a bit anti-orange, but all-in-all they aint as bad as say 3 or t-mobile, so don't feel to downhearted about it.

like i said you need to put your sim in a 3g phone, that way;

if it dont work -> then its orange

if it works -> you know its your n900 and can concentrate on looking at the settings again or re-flashing the device.

i found this post

http://forums.internettablettalk.com...976#post527976

it looks like you visit the link on your n900 to get the correct settings

This behaviour is VERY common with Orange. I ended up moving to another provider as I could never get them to correct their own mistakes unless I threatened to leave. Letters to their complaints department magically disappeared even when registered delivery. Unfortunately it's very common with them.

since you can flash your device and it only takes a few minutes, also try flashing back to the UK variant and see if that works, if it does then theres a problem with the global firmware and/or orange is actively blocking your internet connection on the global firmware?

worth a try since we've tried almost everything else :)

Re: Phone Wont Connect to 3G, any ideas?

Starman, and everyone else who has given feedback, I just want to thank you and also apologise to you. In the end the problem was that my SIM card was not a 3G supporting SIM card.

Before you laugh your heads off at me, I was TOLD by my contracter that it WAS a 3G SIM card, and I double and triple checked. I did call back today and speak to someone else and they said no, it is a 2G SIM card.

So on behalf of my contracter, and myself, I apologise for wasting all your time and thank you!
