probably the best "average-user`s, wanting to have his phone super fast, flooded with apps and likely looking cool" option will be iPhone 5 available probably in fall this year...though super expensive in my opinion, I`m guessing something up to 900 USD...

go for quadcore think outside there, N9 also overpriced one from the factor of SoC, i still manage to stick with my N900, love it from the first time, :)

go for nokia 701 if u want more apps dolby surround sound, 1.3gigs processor(update is on its way link http://www.phonearena.com/news/Nokia...get-it_id27560), awesome video player(it plays even my 720p MKV),good display(1000nits with Nokia CBD)

go for N9 if u wish to c a new interface(VERY ADDICTIVE),good support(from this community)

cost wise 701 has upperhand.if your budget is low go for 701.

I give you the example of accessing web bookmarks from within the stock browser.

N900: Press CTRL + B

N9: Swipe to minimise browser. Swipe upto another two times to get to the application list. Scroll to your bookmarks folder. Tap to open bookmarks folder.

I know which I prefer.

I read the N9 spec, and it says N9 can play 720p @ 30fps. I don't have N9 with me, but I just wonder if anyone really tested 720p video on N9.

broadcoms magical chip plays 1080p easely

I can't believe there's any debate about this on maemo.org of all places - N9 is the only choice! :D Granted, the 701 is a nice phone, but the N9 surpasses it by far when it comes to hackability, flexibility, aesthetics, etc. There's absolutely no reason to be stuck in the past with Symbian on a brand new phone.

The fact that there is a debate just illustrates how Nokia dropped the ball with the N9. It should have been a slam dunk, but instead it only manages second place against Symbian phone that can be purchased for £200. The N9 is the device that is stuck in the past, with multimedia capabilities that belong in 2008, and a UX that is almost as limited as that on the iPhone, which was first released in 2007. I can add, and customise, a homescreen on my N8. How do you do that on an N9?

That's a shame man, N9 is supprisingly easy to open and get to the battery, just like the N8 was.
While they're not available in abundance, there are a few sources of N9 batteries, I even corresponded with one company that was in Germany where they spoke in english via email for me(website wasn't english).
So yeah if that was the dealbreaker you chose wrong, although I had to do a fair bit of digging to find info on getting the N9 open and battery sources but that was back in nov/dec.
