Ah, but you're wrong. That's what I thought too, but S^3 includes GUI hardware acceleration, multitouch, a new tapping philosophy, swap support, zeroconf, and many simplified user interfaces.

For developers, S^3 will ship with Qt support even though Avkon won't be removed until S^4. There's no question S^4 will be more complete, but even S60 isn't lacking in *features*, and simplification is more critical than an entirely new application suite.

You're right about the acceleration now that I think of it, I've read the roadmaps too. Lots of improvements, but I still think it will fail to impress. My reasoning is that it's still the same old Avkon and and I'm surprised if Nokia manages to twist and bend it to anything remotely attractive looking compared to alternatives. :) I think there's much better a chance when they can start from a clean slate with a modern toolkit. It remains to be seen though. My fear is that they will be too conservative with the S^4 UI, that's the impression I got from the UI concept slides.

Are the same developers who wrote Symbian v5 responsible for S^3 ?
If so, it will most likely underwhelm.

The same developers had years to develop v5 and still screwed it up rotten. No reason to believe they have suddenly become decent developers/UI designers.

Nokia increased his parcentage on smartphone market for 41 % to 40%.

But of course by Apple words they are already the number one company on smartphones.

Nokia is doing thinks correctly. And in the future all the the people wil be able to see that.

The issue is more about bad project management... the developers only work on what they are told to do. And judging by how Symbian^1 was when it was first released, maybe a delay is the better way to go to ensure quality product. Unfortunately, Nokia had to delay S^3, but at least they learn from the N97 lesson.

Also, I think it's a safe guess that the delay on S^3 is partially caused by N97 because last year Nokia had to pull resource to fix S^1's various issues......

And, will the story be over then?

No. They can, for example, start making Android devices (or WinMO, god forbid). They know how to make proper hardware efficiently, while lacking in SW and services.

Wouldn't be such a bad idea to finally throw Symbian out of the window. Who would miss it? Not the consumers.

The shareholders just might.

Why do you people want simple devices?
