Tips on watching inet TV/videos: WorldTV and VCURLs72

One can watch ANY internet TV/videos in many ways. I would like to summarize the way I did it and hope to learn more from your experience.

a) VCURLs72: This works on 770 and N8x0, running either 2007He or 2008Os. I just upload a file of 72 TV channels, primary.db.zip.deb here, http://www.internettablettalk.com/fo...ad.php?t=18769. This is different than the earlier 93WorldTVs. They are NOT the same materials. You can dl the primary.db file and expand in a PC and then replace your own /home/user/videocenter/primary.db with this one WARNING: make a back up copy of your own primary.db first if you want to see it again. Or you can browse the file with sqlitebrowser and add the channel one by one by yourself.

Quality of streaming internet videos on 2008Os may NOT be satisfactory, http://www.internettablettalk.com/fo...ad.php?t=19747. dl a copy and then watch always gives the best results. Again, media player seems to render the video slightly better than mplayer. However, mplayer seems to be able to stream better. Finally, "video format not support" is a blatant lie. When you see this error statment, just dl the copy and it will render.

three players on VC:
1) built in media player
2) external player
- mplayer: VC>Tools>Settings...>Player>External: /usr/bin/mplayer -cache 4096 %s
- kmplayer: VC>/usr/bin/dbus-send --print-reply --dest=com.nokia.kmplayer /com/nokia/kmplayer com.nokia.kmplayer.mime_open string:"%s" (credit to qwerty12)

b) RSS feed reader: add VC URLs into the feed and click the title of the feed. Also works on 770 running 2007He.

c) WorldTV99 using kmplayer:http://www.internettablettalk.com/fo...ad.php?t=19044. The latest edition shows a description of the TV channels. And again, you do not have to type in those channels, just dl the file 99TV4IT8d.m3u.txt and open it with kmplayer, you are watching world TVs.
Again, kmplayer includes ossoplayer and mplayer. My experience osso-player (media player) renders video much better than mplayer. However, if osso-player fails, I would switch to mplayer.
Works on 770/2007He somewhat, not smooth though.

VideoCenter and RSS feed reader are the same channels, either one is good enough. They are all USA channels. WorldTV99 is different. It has some USA channels, but they also include Asia, Europe, MiddleEast etc.

The VCURLs72 and the WorldTV99 are different channels and different contents. You should have both. They are not the same materials.

Finally, I want to have feed back or tips how other users are doing with their videocenter/RSS feed/worldTV. There are way too many parameters in optimize the players. Please share your experience.

This thread should be open for discussion of ALL internet streaming TVs/videos, tips, sources, or headaches :).

Thanks.

Edit: Just test on KDE358, everything works, http://www.internettablettalk.com/fo...519#post189519, and you have one more option, smplayer

Edit: when using mplayer, one can control AV sync problem with keyboard +, +100ms, and -, -100ms AV delay.

Edit: Just upload a more refined version of VCURLs72, primary3.db, feedback is greatly appreciated. Download from link at my signiture,

Re: Tips on watching inet TV/videos: 72 TV channels on Videocenter

Comments? Anybody?

To add feeds to VC is painful. As the list gets longer, it takes longer and longer for VC to close. It is NOT the case with RSS feed reader, though. I wonder what is the general census in using RSS feed vs VC. Also I would like to hear from the sqlite database guru: How to add new records to an existing primary.db or even better how to join 2 primary.db together. I only know sqlitedatabrowser.com. In this ways, hopefully I can countinue add new entry to the database and replace the primary.db with my existing one without having to open/close the primary.db in VC. Just because you ask: this posted primary.db of 72 TV channels with 1.3 MB, takes 12 min to close the VC.

One more reminder, this 72 TV channels are different from the 99TV4IT.m3u. They are NOT the same materials.

Enjoy,

A minor correction: CCTV Music does work (w/ media player). In fact it is one of my favorite channels. Great ethnic Chinese and Western classical music that any one can appreciate without language skills (I just listened to the orchestra playing Tchaikovsky's Romeo and Juliet).

Aside from a short period of time (mid-day Eastern Standard Time), there is always something on. Remember there is a 12 hour time difference with EST.

emelFM2 - not very user friendly, try for awhile you will get the hang of it
gpe-filemanager - very close to the default file manager, but allows one to see the system files. cannot rename file, there is a bug.

browse your app manager>installable apps, chances are, they are there already. ow, /www.gronmayer.com/it/ or maemo.org both have them, search for your OS. Post back if problems,

Re: Tips on watching inet TV/videos: 72 TV channels on Videocenter

I only used 2 players. So I am going to compare media player vs mplayer (rc1-maemo.27) wrt 99WorldTV/KMplayer and VideoCenter.

mplayer 1.0rc1-maemo.27.n8x0, http://repository.maemo.org/extras-d...ree/m/mplayer/ (http://www.internettablettalk.com/fo...ad.php?t=19347)

media player 2.2007.51-3

Other media players i have NOT tried yet:
mplayer 1.0 rc2 http://www.internettablettalk.com/fo...ad.php?t=18231

VLC http://www.internettablettalk.com/fo...ad.php?t=14128

99WorldTV with KMplayer: dl the playlist here, http://www.internettablettalk.com/fo...ad.php?t=19044,, and open with KMplayer.

mplayer rc1 0.27 renders much more channels than media player, almost ALL. whereas media player renders less channels than mplayer but in general, renders better. On the good ones, either media player or mplayer will do. These are usually non USA channels. However, mplayer can work with the Dpad while on full screen where media player cannot.

In KMplayer, under window view, one can use the Dpad to move the selection of the channels one by one, and press the center of the Dpad to select the channel. This works for either media player or mplayer. Again, media player plays better, but mplayer plays more formats, or more channels.

However, in KMplayer, under full screen view, only mplayer works with the Dpad. One can still use the Dpad to select channels. Either left or right click will move to next channel and play (Yes, either L or R will move forward to the next channel. Interesting? Or a bug?). While the up and down will select previous or next channel and one has to press the center button to play. This works ONLY with mplayer while in full screen mode. While in the window mode, it works for either player.

For the mplayer, the OSD is kind of messed up under KMplayer as both of them using the Dpad. the OSD is a hit or miss situation under KMplayer.

One more point when comparing the media player vs mplayer. Media player almost never crash. If it does not work, it will NOT even attempt, it just sit there and you can safely move onto the next channel. Mplayer does not. It crashes more often. And if it stucks on a particular channel that it does not render well, you have to close kmplayer and restart.

VideoCenter: dl channels here (primary.db) and save you work to type in channels one by one, http://www.internettablettalk.com/fo...ad.php?t=18769. Same experience regarding the two players, the media player and mplayer. Mplayer plays much more formats then media player but not as good, whereas media player plays less formats but render better in general. There is one exception, CBS evening news with Katie Couric. Mplayer plays very well whereas media player is NOT playing at all. Here is my configure for the mplayer,

External:
/usr/bin/mplayer -cache 4096 %s

The above comparison is for streaming video ONLY. On playing a downloaded copy, either player plays superbly. And mplayer still plays more format then media player, even on a downloaded copy.

Couple of questions:
1) any tips about KMplayer use?
2) How do you configure mplayer under KMplayer, say to change the default audio delay from 200 ms to 0 ms? and how do you keep the change permanent.
3) The vol button works only on windowed mode and is dead when in full screen mode under KMplayer. Any get around?
4) In KMplayer, one can have either window or full screen mode. Window mode you see the TV channel description but loss screen real estate to status bar border, menu border and URL border. While the Full screen mode, you loss the TV channel descriptions. Any get around?
5) Can one set the aspect ratio under either players?
6) Is there a zoom function hidden somewhere. On some of the video clip, it as a black border on top and bottom as well as right and left. Would it be nice if one can zoom to use ALL of the screen space?

One final comment, mplayer 1.0 rc1 .27 is much better than .26 or .25, it is more smooth and crash less. Thank you Serge.

Hey, I want feedbacks and help in the above questions,

TIA,

bun

Re: Tips on watching inet TV/videos: 72 TV channels on Videocenter

How one can do on their 770,

For the 770, you will have to install mplayer 1.0rc1-maemo.27.n770 under 2007He (4.2007.26-8). If you already have mplayer .24 or above, you can just upgrade to .27 from here, http://repository.maemo.org/extras-d...ree/m/mplayer/, from Serge, http://www.internettablettalk.com/fo...ad.php?t=19347. If you are running mplayer .18, you can upgrade to .25 first, then upgrage to .27. Otherwise, you going to run into dependency problems.

Now, you have mplayer .27 and also have the playlist file 99TV4IT9d.m3u, from here, http://www.internettablettalk.com/fo...ad.php?t=19044, say on your /media/mmc1/TV.

xterm
mplayer -playlist /media/mmc1/TV/99TV4IT9d.m3u

Bingo, you are watching world TV from your tablet, just like the those N800, N810........not quite. The 770 runs with sever stuttering and almost unwatchable. You can repeat the above command and add option nosound,

xterm
mplayer -playlist /media/mmc1/TV/99TV4IT9d.m3u -nosound

Now the video is excellent, but there is no sound .

Reportly the latest Kernel by Fanoush does include tearsync that would circumvent the problems. Anybody willing to to for it?

Oh, how are we going to swithch to different channels?

press the menu button, there will be an on screen menu show up, and pressing the choice prev<>next will allow you to choose channels previous and next.

Oh, for video center, you can just dl promary.db and replace with yours, you get 99TV for USA, instructions here, http://www.internettablettalk.com/fo...ad.php?t=18769

If you have a better way to kmplayer on 770, please chime in, quite some 770 users want to run it but encounter problems. TIA,

Enjoy,

enjoy,

Thanks.

straumV.nrk currently broadcast Jukboks Country video, very hi resolution and broad screen, very enjoyable. Streaming is so-so, plays 10 s, stop for 1-2 s; apparantly they are playing stars of my choice, in less than 10 min, I watched the Eagles, GarthBrook, WillieNelson with the 150 degree hot JessicaSimpson, FaithHill, not bad

mms-icanal-live is text news, text is in foreign language, while speech is in Eng.

The last 2 links are dead link.
BTW, what language are those?
Will incorp in next release version. Thanks,

I think these streams are Norwegian NRK ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NRK )

If you replace the m with l you get lower quality version
(m is medium, h is high, l is low quality stream?), such as NRK 1:

mms://mms-icanal-live.online.no/nrk_tv_webvid03_l

The _h streams work with Windows XP Mediaplayer but bitrate is
1 MBps and resolution is too high, too much for NIT, _l-streams works ok).

By the way, mms://mms-icanal-live.online.no/nrk_tv_webvid05_l
streams but I get black screen.

I am impressed. I thought the mms source is a bunch of i and o and has no meaning. Wow, Ism, you are awesome!

Edit: The 4 links are all working on VLC in the desktop PC. The -h are very watchable. Three of them are the same channels, Jukeboks something, and the 2nd one is audio/text news. Good decipher, Ism. Thumbs up.

Re: Tips on watching inet TV/videos: 72 TV channels on Videocenter

In the last couple of weeks, I have been playing with WorldTV99 and VideoCenter, VCURLs72. I think the WorldTV99 started with a crude version 1, with less than 20 TV stations, has since grown into a whopping 146 TV channels and now version 9. With many refinements, deleted the nonworking ones, and the not so well streaming ones, it has now become an enjoyable and watchable version. Thanks for the community inputs to make it possible.

I re-read the VCURLs72, TV channels has now become 72 USA stations (mostly). However, NOT all of them are streaming well. I still have to experiment which channel either streams well, or dl a copy and watch alright with either mplayer or the default media player. Compared to the WorldTV99, this is not a finishing product. After playing with it for several weeks, I do now have an idea which stations plays well and which streams well (I will post a summary soon). However, I have NO control over the order of the VideoCenter how to incorporate those channels. I think if one can edit the database, which is in sqlite language, then it maybe able to turn this into a more enjoyable product like the WorldTV99. Suggestions and comments, complaints and feedbacks are welcome.

Another observation. I started out with mplayer 1.0rc1-maemo.24.n8x0 with VCURLs72 and has now updated to maemo.27. In some video clips, mplayer.27 in fact renders much better than media player and I have since now use it more. And it also streamed a lot better than media player. Highly recommend to upgrade to version 27 of the mplayer.
As I am writing this, i just casually turned into CNN NowIntheNews and watched under mplayer.27, it is the smoothest rendering I have ever seen, .27 is quite superior comparing to .24 and is now my favorite player. However, one small irk from glauncher, it, sometimes does not terminate well.

Re: Tips on watching inet TV/videos: 72 TV channels on Videocenter

Nokia quietly sneaked in 4 (3?) more Videocenter channels, in addition to the PodShow TV and Rocketboom. Has anybody noticed that?

VideoCenter>Service Catalogue: Podshow TV, Rocketboom, Break.com, Raindance TV, Rooftop Comedy and Inside Sony Pictures. However, Raindance TV installation failed "service address invalid". Dont know when this new channels were added, the other 3 have been installed successfully and I am now watching it. The Sony one has some AV sync problem.............. Break.com does NOT work with the built-in media player, you have to install mplayer to watch it. As a matter of fact, all 5 channels from Nokia, seemed to work pretty good with mplayer .27

@Ism: were you able to get raindanceTV.com going? The other 3 streamed/rendered pretty good, except that break.com is totally not compatible with media player, the Nokia default player. Interesting. And they all, 5/6, rendered well with mplayer 27. Although they render well, the 'content' is just OK materials, with break.com being crude to rude, I mean the 'content'-wise.

Re: Tips on watching inet TV/videos: 72 TV channels on Videocenter

@Ism:Thanks for the info. Two of them are audio podcast, tekzilla is from revision3.com and I cannot get DGW to work. All the stuff from revision3.com streamed very well with the format Xvid/small. Their contents are hit-and-miss. I added them anyway. After extra efforts, I finally got the ComedyCentral, the most wanted station. However, they do not render well, either streaming or dl copy. You may want to take a look and see if you have any new ideas.

Updated version of VCURLs72.db is on the other thread, http://www.internettablettalk.com/fo...d.php?t=18769; and has ComedyCentral, the most requested channel, enjoy,

Re: Tips on watching inet TV/videos: 72 TV channels on Videocenter

Just a note about audio/video players and progs under Diablo.

Videocenter 3.032 works just fine. VCURLs72 installed just fine, just dl the primary3.db, rename to primary.db and copy in /home/user/videocenter, bang, you have 72 TV channels going in no time, and CBS Katie Couric is just as pretty :) under Diablo as in Chinook. The most recent additions to the VCURLs72 is ComedyCentral, however, it does NOT render well, still working on it.

And without any announcement or promotion, Nokia quietly sneaked in 4 more channels into video center catalogue, thread #17. Of the 4 new channel, one of them is not working. That makes 72+6-1 for a total of 77 channels under VCURLs72.

Media player and mplayer worked just fine. You really need the 1.0rc1-maemo.27.n8x0, the latest version. It plays much smoother then early versions.

The frontend kmplayer works fine under Diablo. So does WorldTV99. Currently under construction is an ambitious playlist file of over 1650+ channel round the world. Version 1 is a finished product, while version 5, the latest still need to iron some dead channels/dead links.
BTW, version 5 is supposed to be a complete search of ALL streaming video sites as recent as Feb07.

Finally, a new found playground for the WorldTV99, kmplayer works fine under KDE358. Midabox media center, another frontend for media player, seemed render video better than media player. Oh, it also works under Diablo.

One problem with Diablo, so far, both VideoCenter and kmplayer continue to display a warning message "Warning: using excess cpu" every now and then. A bug? A beetle? will find out.

I can't get kmplayer to play any tv.
It sees the tv list, after selecting a station after maybe 30 sec. it may give me a connection lost message. All I get is a blank screen. Plays local video fine. Any suggestions?

I think you are talking about WorldTV99? go to my signature, click the green install button, that will refresh your list. If that is NOT what you refer to, post back.
