Browser Shift+Link Click Feature
Every browser I know opens a new window when the Shift key is pressed during a link click, however, this is missing in the Maemo browser. Instead, it is a context menu item for links to open in a new window. Does anyone know why this is so or how we can get the Shift+Click feature implemented. Thanks.

Hmmmm?!
When I left-click and hold shift somewhere in this window here (Firefox 3.x on Fedora10) NOTHING happens. |
Re: Browser Shift+Click Feature
Shift-clicking a link under Firefox 3.0.11 (Windows XP) opens the link in a new browser window.

Context menu...okay.
Is there someplace I should be looking to learn all of the interface tricks instead of accidentally stumbling across them? |

Re: Browser Shift+Click Feature
How do I escalate this issue of shift+click=new window? No seasoned web surfer worth his weight in salt would follow a link from google for example and then go back, click another link, go back, etc. Especially in Maemo since loads use up so much time. Doing a context click is an absolute nightmare.
If I wanted to change this myself, where would I start? Source code location, how to compile, how to update maemo servers, etc? Thanks. |
Re: Browser Shift+Click Feature
Well, I doubt anyone will fix it for Diablo before the community patches.

Re: Browser Shift+Click Feature
I "discovered" Shift-SPACE in platformHTMLBindings.xml which I learnt of while reading about SNAV bindings. Binding for Shift-Click might be in a similar file. My cursory search didn't turn up anything. It's probably not magic, but you never know.
Of course (and speaking of SNAV), it might turn out like snav.keyCode.modifier where the official documentation proves useless because the microb magically resets it everytime it starts. Just one of those random tidbits you find about by stumbling across it. What I haven't stumbled across is the tidbit that explains why quiting the browser requires restarting a service. I haven't flashed anything yet. Haven't even partitioned my 8G card. When "df /" returns nothing but a header I suspect I don't understand anything. |
Re: Browser Shift+Click Feature
The shift+space key combo is an absolute life saver. Others were turning on virtual memory and disabling flash when I didn't need it, sped up surfing considerably. All that's left is a key to open up a new window with a click ( I do this with middle mouse button in Windows) and pen flicks would be nice ( http://windowshelp.microsoft.com/Win...28c621033.mspx )

As Bundyo said, someone from the community would probably have to figure this out for MicroB under Diablo. Tim |
