Longlist potential participants co-creation session 8th October

Hi everybody,

This is the start of the list that contains all the names of the Maemo Community members who would like to participate in the co-creation session on the 8th of October in Amsterdam. (the day before the Summit)

The Selection Process
We want to find the right people by asking you to recommend your peers, based on their expertise with the topic, as well as their activities within the Maemo Community. Of course, you can also apply yourself.
We (Fronteer Strategy) will contact the people that are recommended or willing to participate to speak with them in person. Eventually we will choose the best mix of participants together with Nokia.

The Profile
We are looking for a perfect mix of backgrounds, expertise's and personalities. All participants should be open-minded, motivating, creative and like to work in groups (communicative, think along, critical, listening & responding)

What we do are expert and lead-user co-creation sessions (if interested, please visit www.welcometorooftop.com for more information). This means that we are looking for inspirational people, visionaries, thought-leaders in their area of expertise. This can be either practical (developers, lead-users) or theoretical (researchers).
Of course it helps if your expertise is linked to the topic of this whole project:

"Creativity on the Move"
- Instant and fun media editing/remixing/sharing (combining, editing & sharing pictures, music and video on your device)
- Serendipitous (accidental/surprising) content discovery (semantic browsing for content stored on your device and internet)

As the results will also be presented by participants & Nokia at the Maemo Summit, it is convenient if you would visit the Summit as well.
One very important logistical point: it is a full-day co-creation session, from 9:00 till 18:00. It is not possible to attend half of the day.

The Longlist
So far, the following people have showed their interest in participating in this co-creation session, or were recommended by someone else:
  • ARJWright
  • Twaelti
  • Reggie Suplido
  • Texrat
  • andy80 (if able to arrive early on the 8th...?)
  • Timsamoff (recommended)
  • lcuk
  • Stupid Little Genius (recommended)
  • zerojay (depending on sponsorship)
  • VDVsx
  • SJGadsby
  • Architengi

If you already showed your interest, and I forgot to put you on the list, I'm sorry, please let me know that you want to be on there!
If you were recommended, but not interested or unable to participate, please let me know as well.

When applying, please send me your motivation for participation and contact-information. I will then put you on the list.

Looking forward to your reactions!

Marieke,

I would like to help. (even more so now I don't have a job)
my liqbase framework is starting to become flexible and viable enough to create anything we can think of :)

I would also like to suggest 'stupid little genius' from the forums.
her artwork was spectacular and she has a natural talent :)

jane got involved in the maemo mascot thread a couple of months ago and contributed some of the most memorable mascot suggestions :D

I'll put you on the list anyway.
I suspect most people will arrive thursday evening or friday morning for the Summit. For the co-creation session you would have to arrive thursday morning... Keep me updated!

Re: Longlist potential participants co-creation session 8th October

Hello,

I would like to know a bit more about the 'terms' of the session.

The participants have to sign some sort of NDA's ?

What is the expected number of participants for the session ? (community+Nokia+partners)

The participants will be divided in small groups or they will work as a big group always ?

Thanks!!

Marieke 2009-09-04 11:57

Re: Longlist potential participants co-creation session 8th October

Hi,
In general Nokia uses a NDA for these kind of sessions. However, because the results will be shared with the Maemo Community and during the Summit afterwards, this NDA will be different than usual. I know Nokia is currently thinking about how to best arrange this, I'm not sure yet what will be in the NDA.

The group will exist of the following:
6-8 Nokia Nokia employees from different departments
8-10 Lead users and experts, of which:
- 4-5 Maemo members
- 4-5 non-Maemo members
3 team members of Fronteer Strategy, who will moderate the session during the whole day.

During the day you will work both within smaller subgroups and with the group as a whole. Discussions and presentations of sub-group results will be with the whole group.
Concept development will be within smaller subgroups.
The subgroups will consist of people from Nokia, Maemo-members and non-Maemo members. During the session there will be visualisers who will immediately draw all ideas, discussion topics and concepts, which makes it very easy to share results with the group.

hope this clarifies it a bit!

Are you also interested in participating?

Good, this is exactly the reply that I was expecting, but you never know.
I already participated in similar brainstorming sessions, in other fields, and the last one wasn't very pleasant to me, by the simple fact that we were an big group working together all the time, end up to be very unproductive, but you guys know that better than I do for sure :) .

There are many ways to do these kind of sessions. We have a lot of experience with co-creation and facilitation of these sessions. We also find it very important to keep an eye on the energy levels of all participants. It's fun but also hard work and by making sure that the creativity and energy levels stay up, it's even more fun!

Surely there's a way to work out for sponsored attendees to participate. I asked Quim about it but he had no idea... who would?

Too bad! I'll take you of the list. If you do like to participate online, everybody can take part in the discussions:

First discussion topic: Mobile Creativity
Second discussion topic: Creative Media Editing & Sharing

How does it work with the sponsoring? Nokia pays for flight & 2 nights during the Summit (friday and saturday night)?
I'll discuss with Nokia if it can be arranged that they will pay for the Thursday night, after the co-creation session.

Would that help?

Yes. And it would help very much!

Hi All,

I spoke to Nokia and they will compensate the extra travelling costs and hotel for the Thursday night if you participate in the co-creation session on 8th of October.

Texrat 2009-09-10 02:47

Re: Longlist potential participants co-creation session 8th October

Awesome! In case it works out for me, I found a Delta flight (6257 with connection to JFK Flight 80) that leaves Dallas at 9:10 in the morning of the 7th and arrives there around 6am Amsterdam time on the 8th.

Texrat 2009-09-10 16:40

Re: Longlist potential participants co-creation session 8th October

Marieke, is this a separate cost center from Quim's that will be approving the additional expenses?

And are you close to identifying participants? We are being asked to start flight plans...

Yes, I'm quite sure it is something else, as I've never heard of Quim... ;-) These costs will be paid out of the budget for this co-creation session.

I hope to choose the final Maemo participants next week (there also haven't been any new people applying anymore), I prefer to speak to everyone from the list in person as well. I will ask everyone to send me a contact-number, so I can make some calls next week.

Texrat 2009-09-11 15:41

Re: Longlist potential participants co-creation session 8th October

Ok, this is critical as it could cause some confusion...

Quim Gil is a Nokia manager representing the company to the Maemo community and vice-versa. I think that you two should get introduced at the very least. ;)

Here's how I see it: for flights there should be no problem. Whether we fly in a day or so early or leave a day or so late should have little or no impact on the Maemo sponsorship.

However, it looks like hotel billing will be handled separately, with one cost center providing booking for the evening of the 8th and another (Quim's) providing booking for the 9th through 10th.

Hopefully your team can work out something soon, because many of us being sponsored are not in a position to pay much in the way of expenses...

Hi Marieke,

I would be interested to participate at the co-creation session 8th October.

Marieke 2009-09-14 10:08

Re: Longlist potential participants co-creation session 8th October

Thanks for the explanation. What you are saying is exactly how I think it will be arranged. I will discuss if they can solve things internally, but it might indeed be that the two costs centres will pay separately. But either way you will not have to pay for your hotel yourself!

Texrat 2009-09-14 14:00

Re: Longlist potential participants co-creation session 8th October

Thanks Marieke.

I would still ask that you coordinate with Quim Gil (qgil here) since some of us will be booked into a hotel for the Maemo Summit sponsored by his Nokia cost center. I don't believe the rooms for that have been arranged just yet, and it would be nice if those of us attending both co-create and Maemo Summit can have the same room the entire time rather than moving, especially from one hotel to another...

It's probably too late, but I'd love to be involved. I'm going to be in Amsterdam at that time anyway, but if I'm not chosen, I'll go to the museum instead. :)

"Busy" is an excuse for single-taskers and people who use "yo mamma" as a rebuttal.

Hi Everybody,

Yes, as Texrat already stated, the participants for the co-creation session have been chosen, so unfortunately you cannot longer apply for this session, I'm sorry qole.

The final participants are:
Twaelti
Timsamoff
lcuk
VDVsx
SJGadsby

For everybody else on the list: thanks so much for your interest and don't worry: during the Summit there will be a lot of time to further develop the concepts for this project.

There will be a short presentation of the co-creation session's results on Saturday, after that, everybody can give their feedback and improve the concepts. On Sunday, we will have an area on the Summit terrain where all results will be shown and we'll have a 'Garage-session'. All day, you can walk in and help further develop the concepts into more detail, main goal here is to have fun & make it tangible!

Cheers,

Marieke

Co-creation participants:

Are there any of you staying in Amsterdam on the Wednesday night who also don't have a roommate?

I'm scrambling to figure out what to do about Wednesday night.

Worst case scenario, I'll stay in a private room at a hostel for 64 EU.

But I'd really prefer to stay with a maemo.org person.
