Need translators to evaluate transifex.net
To make live easier for users, translators and developers there is an objective to simplify the translation of our beloved applications.
This will benefit every one. Users will get translated software, translators will get a simple interface for creating translations and developers don't have to care about all that stuff anymore :) You can help by just donating a couple of minutes to this community doing a bit translation work. After that tell us what you think about the process. I registered Conboy on the transifex.net website so we all can see how easy (or difficult) it is to use. The good thing is, that Conboy only has a view short strings, so the translation shouldn't take more than about 15 minutes. What do you have to do if you want to help? 1) Go to http://transifex.net and create an account 2) Tell me your transifex.net user name and I will add you or just request to be added to the Conboy project directly on the website. I'll give out permissions as fast as I can. 3) Once you have the permissions, do some translations and submit them. 4) Tell us what you think about the process etc... The project is here: http://www.transifex.net/projects/p/conboy/ There are two components you can choose to translate only one of them or both. All these translations will be used in the next release, and will bring you eternal fame and glory :) Happy translating! |

Re: Need translators to evaluate transifex.net
French translation updated. The interface is quite cool.
A couple of questions though : 1) What's "fuzzy" ?... 2) Some of my previous strings has colons (":") appended, so I suppose the originals had them, too. The new labels next to the text boxes don't have them any more (except #28, "Search:"). Must I remove them from the translations too ? BTW, shouldn't #22 be "Forward" ?... |

2) Any changes in original strings must be reflected in the translations. |
Re: Need translators to evaluate transifex.net
Only one question, how can I add new language? Then I try add translated or empty pot file a I only see this error:
"The uploaded file did not pass the correctness check. Please run 'msgfmt -c' on a terminal to see the errors." :-( |
Re: Need translators to evaluate transifex.net
I'm JosefA (surprisingly) on transifex. Let's have a looksee what the service can do.

"Fuzzy" means, that I have changed the keys. The localization tools are doing an automated matching, thus it's not clear whether or not the translation is still valid. So just check the fuzzy strings and if they are still ok remove the fuzzy check box. The "Foreward" key is obviously wrong - yes :) I just was in such a hurry. This will be a key that will change soon. The translation will then be marked as 'fuzzy'. And about the colons I would say that if the key has a colon, the translation should usually have one too. But again I might have made mistakes myself. ;) |

Probably not what you want the hear, but: Could you try again? I've tested it today with the German translation and it did work for me. |

The current workflow ATM is, that whenever someone submits the form, I get an email with the new .po file. I copy this file in my source tree and commit it so svn. Then the status on the transifex site gets updated. The problem is, the file which I received via email is almost exactly the same as the file which exists already. So, yea, something is not good. Could you try again, maybe just with 2 or 3 strings? |

fpp, now I got a file with plenty of changes!

Re: Need translators to evaluate transifex.net
I just did it all over, unchecking all "fuzzy" boxes, both commits show up in history, but I think the result is still the same :-(
edit : oh, all right then :-) First time, I didn't uncheck the "fuzzies", and I also had "NoScript" on which killed some javascript on the page. Either, or both, may explain the first failed attempt... |

Why do all the Main branch versions show up as 44% done? I can't see what's missing. |

Yup. Its seems the page sometimes requires a forced refresh from the browser (Ctrl-F5) to update contents...

Re: Need translators to evaluate transifex.net
OK, off the top of my head reaction, transifex is nice but the advantage pootle has is that you can edit po files in a very newbie friendly web interface. If there is one on transifex I'm too dense to have found it. I suspect a lot of new users would have to have their hands held through for example getting poedit and importing a pot file and uploading a .po file and so on, without a web editing function the potential for confusion is going to be high.
Plus, what does locking do? Other than indicating that someone is working on a language? EDIT: My density is confirmed. I found the online edit function. Where's my dunce cap? |

For some reason I needed to use web edit functionality 3 times before all strings were translated. And in first try it didn' save my translation at all and changing page probably reseted fuzzy check boxes. I did this all on N900. |

Re: Need translators to evaluate transifex.net
JosefA, I've just altered a few things in the Danish translation, but nothing big as you had done most of it already ;)
