N900- Remote Desktop
Hi-
I am a part time trader and have to ocassionally manage my trades from office- is there any way I can use N900 to remote login to my desktop at home and access the trading platform and manage my open positions? Your response appreciated! H |
Re: N900- Remote Desktop
You can use VNC viewer, it's in extras-testing at the moment.

Re: N900- Remote Desktop
VNC works nicely on the N900.

Re: N900- Remote Desktop
Any chance of seeing an implementation of the Microsoft RDP protocol any time soon? With windows machines it's kind of redundant to install VNC.
Also, OpenVPN + RDP makes the ultimate roadtime server management tool! :D |
Re: N900- Remote Desktop
There's rdesktop for N800 so I guess that should work or will work soon.

Re: N900- Remote Desktop
It's a touchscreen, so you just click / drag etc on the screen.

Re: N900- Remote Desktop
in this video, you can see a sort of mouse plugin.

So are you saying you're running VNC from in the browser instead of as a separate app or does the Maemo mouse work outside of the browser? Sorry, I'm just not clear about how this is working... |
Re: N900- Remote Desktop
i'm not so deep into the n900 software.
i just thought, if this function is available in the browser, it shouldn't be difficult to implement it into other programs like the desktop remote. |
Re: N900- Remote Desktop
Wiee, VNC is great ****!
|
Re: N900- Remote Desktop
Is anyone with an n900 able to post a video of RDP in action? :D

Re: N900- Remote Desktop
Well, if the browser is sufficient, you should be able to use any basic online remote desktop service, such as logmein.org.
|
Re: N900- Remote Desktop
Or porting something such as http://www.rdesktop.org/ for RDP would be great imo..

Re: N900- Remote Desktop
So i take it tsclient or even better NX client havent been ported to maemo 5 yet? Unless vnc has improved drastically in very recent history it is far far slower than rdp/NX

Re: N900- Remote Desktop
I'd also appreciate RDP support.
VNC is not a substitute when connecting to a Windows machine. It only transfers images while RDP is much smarter and integrated with the OS. This allows it to work over slow connections without becoming a blurry mess. |
Re: N900- Remote Desktop
Hi, the cli version of the rdesktop will most probably work as is. (At least this was the case when moved to Maemo 4.)
What you most probably would like to ask is if pyRDesktop, i.e. the front-end made by TrueJournals, could be ported to Maemo 5. It's quite nice and useful. |

Re: N900- Remote Desktop
Does this include going the other way? As in can you setup a VNC server on the N900 and remote into it? Sounds like this project's focus is going on the other way.

Re: N900- Remote Desktop
Hi all,
We have ported Rdesktop to N900. It is based on version 1.6 for Diablo. It has the UI and backend together unlike the latest split packages rdesktop-cli and pyrdesktop. We have implemented a few additional features like - keyhandling to enter numbers from N900 keypad - full screen to normal mode toggling - etc. We will contact Bobby Graese, Hallyson Melo and Kemal Hadimli to share the implementation. Hope they will be interested :) http://media.share.ovi.com/m1/s/1413...249af1fa9f.jpg http://share.ovi.com/media/omeam.maemo/omeam.10001 |

Million thanks. Couple of questions though; from the screenshot (don't have the device myself) it seems that there is no options to store/choose profiles. Is this the case? Also, will it be possible to use this version without a gui? I remember the first port in OS2008 was popping a gui when called from xterm - really awful when used in scripts. C |
