Help! N900 won't switch on
This just happened now,
Plugged in charger as it was telling me battery was low, decided to switch it off and charge, now it is not switching back on, the charge light doesn't come on unless i take battery out, then it remains solid.:confused::confused::confused: Help! |
Re: Help! N900 won't switch on
Let it charge for a while before attempting to turn it on again.

Re: Help! N900 won't switch on
In the manual it says if your battery runs very flat, you may need to plug the charger in. remove it and then plug it in again before it will charge properly

Re: Help! N900 won't switch on

Managed to switch it on now, however i must say the charging has been funny over these past few days, when i plug charger in when phone is on it doesn't give any sign of charging (green battery up down, orange light ext ), only when its off i see the notification light. This only happens with the mains charger, charging is fine through usb-pc |

Re: Help! N900 won't switch on
echos of the N800.
Many of those (mine inc!) needed to be chilled in the fridge or freezer before they would turn on. That made it hard to change batteries when away from civilisation. I don't know why, but it was fixed in a firmware upgrade. |

Re: Help! N900 won't switch on
im having a problem with my n900 also, my battery was low so i decided to plug it in, then it shuts off on it's own. i waited for about 10 mins to turn it back on but my device wont turn on again. It just displays NOKIA on the background and the screen is dim. It also vibrates every once in a while. Is there anyone out there that has the same issues and if it was fixed?

Re: Help! N900 won't switch on
I had this problem about a few weeks ago. I let it switch off completely first then put it on charge. It kept charging for hours but now there's no problem. I think there's been some battery trouble with pr1.2 if that has to do with anything. In fact my device had been on charge and i was browsing the internet on it when it just beeped low battery and switched off. Leave it alone for some hours to charge fully and then see if it happens again

Re: Help! N900 won't switch on
I had the same issue with my N900 not able to switch on. It happened after I uninstalled "Enhanced Linux kernel for power users" package not reading properly its uninstallation warning/instructions and do it in the correct manner. So fellow N900 users, know full well what you are doing and take the responsibility for what you do.
1. Every few minutes it will vibrate with Nokia logo without the backlight. 2. If I tried turn it on, Nokia logo again will show this time with backlight along with white led indicator, the screen will show the 5 flashing dots before going off and lastly the white indicator will also go off. Then it will repeat step 1 over and over again. My way of solving it was to keep in on the charger despite of recurring step 1. After a few hours, I will then plug it to my Debian desktop while holding the "u" key down. Then on Debian console, lsusb will show you "Nokia device for flashing" or sort. Then I grab my opportunity to flash it. Then everything will be reset back to factory state. I flashed only the Fiasco image and NOT the eMMC. So that the root system returns to factory state while my photos and data on eMMC still remain intact. N900 in a way is a great open source device that you can do flashing from your desktop. So you have the absolute freedom to try out your stuff and not so much of fearing of bricking your device. |
Re: Help! N900 won't switch on
ive tried all the suggestions here but nothing works. Ive had my n900 for a while and looked after it well. The usb port is fine. I came accross this issue today, I have been using Nitdroid on it 0.0.3 wifi version and was running it for a while and the batt was a bit low., it then just died out when i was in proccess of turning it off. I can' t seem to charge it with no matter what cable, wether from pc or wall charger, taken battery, sim and sd card out but nothing. No light indicitar, its just like its dead.
please help :( |

Re: Help! N900 won't switch on
Well, folks, for 1 I don't use M$ for any of my serious work so I have no comment if you wanna flash from M$ platform.
The key is to charge your N900 for at least a few hours regardless it shows no sign of life or erratic behavior. Just juice it up so that it has enough power to last through the flashing process which is just a few minutes. On Debian, run a console such as "konsole" or "gnome-terminal". Type "lsusb" you should able to see "Nokia Mobile Phone N900 (Storage Mode)" The above is to confirm your desktop is able to detect N900 so that the flasher will proceed as expected. Nonetheless, if you go ahead and run the flasher, it will wait for N900 to be attached before it will carry on with flashing. If I am not wrong, you have to run "command" on Windoze and flash from there - good luck! Because I don't understand why you would get a linux powered mobile unit (N900) and coupled with something else. |

Re: Help! N900 won't switch on
can i use windows 7 to do this for my n900 hahaha cheers man Debian rules :D
|
Re: Help! N900 won't switch on
I guess it shouldn't be a problem to use command prompt in Win7. Run the flasher program and plug-in n900. If its recognised then the flashing will proceed or otherwise it will wait till n900 is connected.
On Debian, i'm able to lsusb (list usb devices) to see if n900 is connected or not. Most of the time with IT, we just have to try and error with different combination till it work and share our experience. Good luck. Wilson:D |
Re: Help! N900 won't switch on
I had a problem like this recently.
I fell asleep on the couch then woke at 4am and decided to go to bed. I picked up N900 to check that the alarm was set, only to find it dead from battery depletion. I went to bed and plugged the N900 into a 3rd party battery charger. The N900 alarm went off on time. I tried to boot it but it showed the 5 dots then switched off. Plugging it back into the 3rd part charger showed a flashing yellow LED for a few seconds, then one blink of green, then nothing. I tried booting it a number of times with no luck. I got up, starting to feel an impending reflash coming on. When I got downstairs, I plugged the N900 into its Nokia charger. I got a steady yellow flashing LED (which cheered me up) and went for a shower. 20 minutes later I tried to boot the N900 and it was OK (phew), it booted and showed about 50% charge. So, from this experience, I'd suggest the following - if your N900 is playing dead, and you've been trying to charge it with a 3rd part charger, try the regular Nokia one. Also, it is handy to know that the phone will come back from the dead to ring your alarm and get you out of bed. |

Have you tried leaving the device charging overnight, then unplug the charger, wait 30 seconds and try to switch the phone on? |

Flash your device following these instructions: http://wiki.maemo.org/Updating_the_tablet_firmware They are long but easy to follow. If there is a specific step you don't understand or that does not work, come back here, specify which step, and give details (error message, etc..) When you are finished, stop using stuff from extra devel. Quote:

1. Connect your device to a random computer using your usb cable. 2 let the device plugged in for let's say 10 minutes WITHOUT DOING ANYTHING WITH IT. 3 Turn the device on by pressing the power button in combination with the u key on the keyboard. If the device turns on it will show a usb sign in the upper right corner and your os will detect a usb device. If it doesn't work unplug and try again from step 1. If it did work turn of the device by pressing the power button again and then turn it on normally. Why does this problem occur? Well I've had this problem three times now, and I suspect that it has something to do with the battery related software. As you might know the N900 uses a lithium Ion battery, this particular type of battery doesn't like being fully charged or being drained dry. To prevent either scenario there exists software to check the battery's output level and detect when the battery is almost empty. It will appear that it is about to die out and your phone switches off, while in fact the battery still contains some juice. My own n900 had these symptoms prior to the last two failures: 1, the phone stopped detecting if it was plugged in or not, and after charging the green light would remain visible or if the cable was removed while charging the charging light wouldn't disappear. 2, The phone suddenly died though the battery appeared to be still at at least 30 percent. These two symptoms make me think that somehow the battery software has either become bugged or the battery itself is at fault. Well that's all I can add I hope you find it usefull. |
