N900 and Gif animations

I wanna know that if n900 supports GIF files? If not, is there any codec regarding this mater?

I don't know why noone has answered yet, but NO!!!
The N900 does not support in ANY way the .gif format.
gif images cannot be placed as backgrounds, but that's not the most important issue; the N900 CANNOT EVEN DISPLAY GIF IMAGES!

...well, at least MOVING gif images...

Re: N900 and Gif animations

i bet there are some image-viewers with gif-support, even in Easy Debian / Mer / Fedora...

Its odd actually since the About Product dialogue has a bit about Gifs

Re: N900 and Gif animations

the browser supports animated gifs, I have a link to the national weather service radar for my area in the simple form which is an animated gif since the browser does not support the java on the advanced version

Link is like this if you wanna try

http://radar.weather.gov/ridge/lite/N0R/LTX_loop.gif

here is page where you can figure out the link for the radar imagery you want

Hmm. The gif images won't move. Is there any add-on or patch to "fix" this?

Re: N900 and Gif animations

Can you open .gifs with the browser?

Re: N900 and Gif animations

somebody needs to get like a patch or something so the photos app can display them correctly : it's getting embarrasing having such a high end phone that cannot complete simple tasks that other cheaper phones can.......mms, displaying gif, IM files sharing, tis just sad

Ever heard of qimageviewer ?

Re: N900 and Gif animations

that application is not available in all countries, and for what i've read, it's not that good, only faster scrolling besides, we shouldnt have to use a different app for this type of images, it should be incorporated in the photos app

Re: N900 and Gif animations

Agreed but sad to say I don't think it would come officially now. If only it was suggested when n900 was still supported by nokia...

Just a bit of a clarification for you. :-) I know this is being pedantic, but just to avoid diluting the word:

A codec is literally short for Compressor / Decompressor. The origin is from the telecoms industry. These days in the computer world the word is perhaps more commonly short for Encode / Decode.

A GIF file (Graphics Interchange Format) is just that, your N900 would reference a graphics library to display this particular image format.

Re: N900 and Gif animations

perhaps. we could somehow route the opening of the gif file to microB instead of default image gallery???

Re: N900 and Gif animations

Hi guys.
If you open the web browser and click on the "web" option and then in "open file" you can open the .gif file with animation.
So, can we change the application to open that file extension?

I can display the gif image:
http://de.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?...20070624170244
if I save it and select it from the file manager.

In the picture overview it gets a "broken image" icon and you cannot select it from the overview.

I cannot view animated gifs: they are shown static if I select them in the file manager and also get the "broken image" icon in the overview.
Only MicroB shows them animated.

Re: N900 and Gif animations

I don't really get it...

Windows XP was the last windows that supports GIF in native picture browser.

I now run the lastest Win8, and guess what 2013 and NO GIF!

This is exactly what I think happend with the N900 and even newer models with Android, Windows, etc.

Also, would like to request a plugin for native picture view with GIF codec.
